OK here is the scenario. You go to search type in band you want songs from.Up come a ton of results, however, on the right hand side of the screen under " search results" If it is not "GREEN " aka: 1 of 3 available, etc. The songs NEVER download. Why? Also I am reading the Name of the server & user but the songs NEVER download (God bring back 2.6) What can one do? Is is possible for so many people wanting the same song that it will never download. What are the options-please let me know...THANKS!
They should download. Double clicking on the file should be put you in the person's queue. Eventually your turn should come up, and you'll get your file. If you don't, it could be that the other user turned off WinMX or disconnected you for some reason or keeps bumping people ahead of you in the queue. If it is not "GREEN " aka: 1 of 3 available, etc. The songs NEVER download.
Long queues aren't the result of the same file being wanted, they're a case of a lot of people wanting files from the same user.Is is possible for so many people wanting the same song that it will never download.
I'm been thinking about the queueing issue recently and I see three major causes of queues:
1. people not sharing files - there's really no excuse for this unless you're on 56K, I highly doubt that you'll lose a lot of your download bandwidth by offering some room for uploads
2. not enough upload slots - suppose for instance that you have 2 upload slots open, if 2 56Kers start downloading 100 MB files, your queue won't move an inch for a longtime (although even some Cable/DSL people downloading from me are slow)
3. bandwidth throttle - I'm guilty of this too and I'm sure it's fairly commonplace among the network.
I cap 10 connections at 30 k. What do others set theirs at?
There's no excuse for this at all, don't forget 56k modems don't work like cable modems, upload and download bandwidth are independant of each other, therefor uploads will not prejudice download speed. Even users new to p2p should have there own CDs copied to disc so that excuse goes out of the window as well.1. people not sharing files - there's really no excuse for this unless you're on 56K, I highly doubt that you'll lose a lot of your download bandwidth by offering some room for uploads
If I am monitoring transfers I only have 2 slots open, but if I see 1 or 2 slow uploads I just over-ride the settings by right clicking and start transfer. This way users get the best of both worlds being able to upload at my maximum bandwidth. If I'm not monitoring it I change the setting to 7 slots, it means slower transfers all round but it's better than being stuck in a queue thats' hardly moving.2. not enough upload slots - suppose for instance that you have 2 upload slots open, if 2 56Kers start downloading 100 MB files, your queue won't move an inch for a longtime (although even some Cable/DSL people downloading from me are slow)
I never use bandwidth throttle.

Do you mean that if a 56K user is downloading at 4.5 kps (the max of the modem) and someone else starts downloading from them, that they'll be able to download at 4.5 and upload at 2 at the same time? I didn't think it worked that way.upload and download bandwidth are independant of each other, therefor uploads will not prejudice download speedThat's a good way to do it too, but I'm usually away from the computer so that's why I use the upload slot method.but if I see 1 or 2 slow uploads I just over-ride the settings by right clicking and start transfer
WInMX 3.30 is very dissappointing.
still very little hits. Downloading is a pain in the arse. The speed remains lousy as it was.
IMPROVE, Developers !!!!!:cross
You forgot to ad please dont just share your partial folder.
i have been a "loyal" and long-time user of winmx, ever since the demise of Napster.
2.6 version.
and i have to say that 3.3 sucks royally.
i hate the interface....it is too cluttered and not very user-friendly.
i loved the simplicity of 2.6.......clean.....organized.
i am a 56ker and i share 1000+ songs, that i have patiently downloaded over the last year and a half.
they are all complete and organized.
as a 56ker i allow one upload at a time.
and i only download one at a time.
generally my downloads aren't affected, but sometimes they are.
nevertheless, i allow all uploads.
the frustration level of 3.3 is ridiculous.
i feel i have no control and are left out in the cold.
most of the suggestions from the tech-heads, who understand the inner workings of this app, are indeed correct.
but i don't see anyway of letting a lot of the newbies know these things, like opening up more slots, primary vs. secondary connections, etc.
if they could include these instructions, with the outcomes of adhering vs. not adhering them, at the onset of set-up, maybe that would help.
unfortunately, i've uninstalled 3.3 and still use 2.6, with good results from the opennap.
but i AM in the process of finding an alternative to winmx, and i am very sad to say it.
This is totally unrelated ,but are any of you sseing anything strange with zeropaid? The site is not working as usual almost as if they are having a attack.
Has anyone here had the primary connection working on WinXP? My XP system crashes everytime I try primary connection. Secondary connection seems to work fine though with plenty of search results.Originally posted by Krell
make a primary connection when possible
i think because 3.3 SUCKS so bad......the zeropaid site is getting swamped with users needing help, wanting to bitch, and looking for something better...no?Originally posted by The Hunter

I betcha that for every user here complaining about WinMX, there's hundreds of satisfied WinMX users out there, and there's probably hundreds who just switch to other file sharing programs without wasting their time trying to get help or bitching about WinMX.Originally posted by Lamourlady

Bandwidth throttle ........ the bottleneck & probable source for the long ques.
One other major reason is simply because the program is so good. Just find a file you want and continue this process as the program will search for you. An automated file search + download program. Well, no wonder you have 100+ users in a que at any given time.
The good, and the bad.
And of course the never ending leeches......please check your whois and make sure to ignore those not sharing.
won't work buddy.Originally posted by goweropolis

i have used winmx since the demise of Napster.
and i have tried them all and still came back to winmx.
so if i happen to think that 3.3 SUCKS the big weenie, then that is my opinion.
i tried it for a week and i still say it SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
got it?
i don't need help, i am not some newbie.
i know what i like and what i don't like.
and i don't like the new version 3.3.
although they have gained some wonderful additions, for the most part, it is a glorified version of every p2p app out there.
they tried too hard and it shows.
2.6 was slick and user friendly. no bells or whistles needed.
i got everything i needed and had no problems sharing.
speeds were good and so were the search results.
there were no queues for days and u weren't cut off.
just because something is so-called "new and improved", doesn't necessarily make it so.
No probs with primary connection on XP here!Originally posted by goweropolis
