Regarding P2P file sharing - Gnutella Network & Bitzi Lookup
What is it with the A55HOLES that change filenames so you donload 900MB of complete crap
There must be a way to find and stop those responsible
the Bitzi Lookup tool is very usefull but it is not as reliable as it could be and can be misused
What we need is a system that can determine if a person sharing a file has changed the file name
and if the file has been submitted to Bitzi as dangerous or misleading then the person is locked out of the Gnutella system and cannot share the file
Here is an example
http://bitzi.com/lookup/YTVBKQU277IS...HQ2K2RB?detail
Obviously many people change file names to suit their own archiving and storage systems but there must be a way of setting up the system to prevent the sharing of deliberately misleading files

You can use several programs to help you identify the file type.
gspot
avi preview to preview avi files, that have not finish downloading
divx fix to fix part of a broken avi file to view the file
then there is realplayer = plays broken incomplete mpeg files, *use vlc* it might work
virtual dub
just google for these programs
or search on zeropaid in the search section in the forums to find out about them
there are ways to make sure the file you getting are actual
these programs can help
I used virtual dub alot of the times as well
so add the correct filename, and give a lower rating to the incorrect one, like i just did.Originally Posted by Gozer
simple really
but yeah CJ is right about VLC and such, if you use ed2k you can see what users with 100% of the file have it named, and if you use emule MorphXT you can keep your fake file database up to date, and avoid known fakes alltogether
You cannot simply ADD a correct file name
and you cannot give a lower rating than dangerous or misleading
many files cannot be previewed
Damaged files may be repairable but only when fully downloaded
We need a system to prevent the deliberate sharing of malicious & misleading files
possibly by adapting the Gnutella network & Bitzi lookup
Bitzi stores info that a file is dangerous or misleading so Gnutella could be adapted to use the Bitzi information to prevent a malicious user sharing files
Say a file know to be porn is shared with a known popular filename to make it misleading
then the Gnutella network could be set not to share the file from its location
So that if somebody has the film "Best Porn Film Ever" and has renamed it "Pervy Film 1"
to fit their file archiving then it is not a misleading file name and can be shared
but if somebody has the film "Best Porn Film Ever" and has renamed it "Lord of the Rings"
a Well known and popular title then it is clearly misleading and could be blocked from sharing
did you look? LOLOriginally Posted by Gozer
im not talking about uprating and downrating the quality of the file, im talking about uprating correct filenames and downrating bad filenames.
and as for a database of fakes:
http://emulepawcio.sourceforge.net/n...akes/fakes.dat
Yes I did look
and the Title at the top of the page had been changed
it only proved my point that the Bitzi lookup can be misused by idiots
most P2P file shareing programs use the Gnutella network with file checking with Bitzi
I dont see how the web page you mention helps
Im not knocking it I am sure some people find it usefull
but is hardly a well known and easy to use source of detecting misleading files
and with the vast volume of files being shared an automated system is what is needed
No doubt something is in the pipleline but the sooner we can use it the better
a lot of emule mods use fakes.dat files to detect fakes.Originally Posted by Gozer
and it was wrong to gave that file a bad rating because it's miss-named

There were websites that did help on this issue but the unfortunate thing is that many of them were shut down with ED2K and BT links the problem with it is that it has been decided that linking for P2P apps is pretty much not tolerated to copywrited materials on a P2P network...
So the next logical thing is a rating system that can be built into the program...
Another thing that would be nice is a traded built html in a zip file with these links...
I am supprised no one has made the effort to make a distributed web page or text pad full of verified links to files yet and posted it...
