My friend has recently encountered a virus or error on his machine and we dont have a clue Wtf is going on... heres what he says:
Specs:
I am using Windows XP Proffessional with current specs [ AMD Sempron +2500 (overcloked to 2.0GHZ) , 1024 MB of ram, ATI Raedon 9200+ ]
i scanned for spyware in http://housecall.trendmicro.com and it detected. So i said delete it and when it deleted my msconfig stoped working. How can I get Msconfig working without formating?
When I type msconfig or regedit in run it gives error and it says Windows cannot find 'msconfig' Also this happens when I type 'regedit' in run, It says Windows Cannot find 'regedit'
Because if this, I cant run my firewall its not working. And I cant run SQL Server which is automated by msconfig start up process. Plus i cant add/remove something I want to be on my startup.
Can you confirm whether or not C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe and C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\msconfig.exe have been deleted?

Yes he has verified C:\windows\ and he doesn't have neither of the files.

Well, it's a round about way, but Spybot also lets you configure what programs start up with your computer - www.spybot.info
As for getting msconfig back, I figure you can get it off the XP cd - but don't ask me how to exactly :/
