    More trouble...

You guys probably remember the trouble I had with the dead motherboard, it wasn't two weeks past. If you don't remember, let me reiterate. I had trouble with the motherboard posting and tried a myraid of things to get it to work. Nothing prevailed. So I ordered a new motherboard and am getting the same trouble. The power comes on and stays on till I turn the power source button off.

Interesting thing to note is there is no noise when I plug in the speakers and the harddrives don't sound like they are getting accessed (there is no noise) like during boots with a new processor I just bought. The only way to get a different response is to interchange processors, the older one I have seems to want to make noise (albeit strange, nothing I've ever heard before which i'm sure isn't a beep code, it isn't uniform) when started and will last until I turn it off.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions? I got a new power source, memory card, motherboard, processor and am sure all are compatible...if you must have the full details, i'll get them to you next post, its getting late and I need some rest after working on this frustrating project all day.

I can't even get it to load up to the post screen at the very beginning. The power comes on okay and the fans but the board doesn't access the harddrives and load up like it should. I've tried multiple video cards too. Ones that work in other systems I've got. I let it sit over night with the cmos battery out and jumper set to clear the cmos. I'll brb to see if it works!

I got the same thing, power and fan comes on with the new processor but there is no beep code or harddrive access. The only other possible thing I can think of to try is a bigger cpu fan. I've got one of those little ones. Would that affect the boot if the processor your using is a 2 gig?

I really don't think so, but it's certainly worth a shot.

I'd gather from what you said it's your Processors that are screwed... You said you were placing em on the board without using the heatsink/fan AKA cooler that'll do it espicially with AMD processors I recall watching a video with a comparison from toms hardware guide I actually have the video that will show just how fast one of these processors fry like eggs in a skillet on high...

http://www.fais2fais.com/THG_CPU_Cooling.avi <- link to the video

    http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/01q3/010917/index.html <- Original articale...

Sounds like the processors to me...

Wont initiate post that seems to be pretty strange as well... What is a new power source by the way?

When you are doing this are you taking the proper precautions to prevent ESD though it may not be common in your expirience it is actually a common problem...

Thanks for the replies guys. I took it up to the local computer shop and found out it wasn't the processors when he used a brand spanking new one on the system. I left soon after and haven't called him back yet to find out what happened.

And in response about electrostatic discharge, I always grab ahold of the computer's metal casing before touching any components to ground myself. Is that sufficent?
