Freebsd is great but it all depends on what someones needs are to what operating system they will choose. I for myself rate netbsd is in the top simply because its the most raw operating system around and its main feature is the security unlike in windows its very blowted and it gives you a nice blue screen more often then not and the firewall for windows is highly ametuer.

Im in full support of open source and I hope in the future it will kick bill off his throne!!!!

NetBSD's primary focus is portability. OpenBSD's primary focus is security. FreeBSD's primary focus is performance/usability.

I think you got some mixed up :-)

While a noob myself, I am running SuSE after trying several flavors of Linux. For one starting out, it seems to be fairly easy to do. I finally learned to configure my home net in linux and now have access to it. Took a little while to puzzle through but that's ok, another problem solved and down.

I too am having the tarball/tar.gz problem with conversions. RPM's of the right nature run easily and ok but many of the programs and additions aren't done in RPM. So what's the knowledge I gotta learn for that to convert?

For those with the same problem as I on the RPM's, try this link in hopes of helping!
