    Is GeForce better?

Can someone tell me if it's better to have 64mb graphics or a GeForce FX5500 AGP card?

Also are AMD Athlon 64s that much better than AMD Sempron 3000+s?

Very grateful for any input coz I really want to get the best computer possible for my price range and the Athlon one is only £20 dearer.

The difference between a "64mb graphics" and a "Geforce Fx5500" cannot be determined from the information you gave. In the first card, you only told the amount of memory on the card--not the chipset, or manufacturer. On the second you only gave the chipset--no memory amount, or manufacturer. (nVidia doesn't make graphics cards, only the chipsets). There's no basis for comparison.

The Athlon 64s are better than the Semprons. Sempron is AMD's value-chip, and the Athlon 64 is a high performance chip.

In my experience, it's better to go with the graphics card with the fastest clock speed rather than how much memory is on-board. The packaging will always say in huge letters how much memory it has, but rarley can you find the clock speed.

It's really best to figure out which cards you're thinking of buying and start digging through the web for comparisons and reviews. If you go to the store without reading up you're likely to drop cash on a card that's not suited for you.

The type/speed of the memory also plays a key role.

ANY of the newer high end cards from ATI or Nvidia will serve you just fine. Though stay away from the neutered version of those cards, such as the GeForce5200s'- 5500s' and ATI 9200s', 9250s', and 9550's They are sorely lacking true DX9 performance, and while they may be compatible with DX9 there performance under it just sucks. My advice is do not cheap out when buying a video card if you a serious or semi serious gamer, you will be happier in the long run, and you will not have to deal with obsolescence as soon if you buy a decent card to begin with.

Instead of the Sempron opt for an AMD Athlon 64 2800+

What is the make and Model of the GeForce FX 5500 AGP?

How much are you willing to shell out for the graphics card accelerator?

I don't actually know the makes. All I've seen is what the ad says. I went to the Novatech website and was looking for one on there to suit my price range and that is the only information they had. I'm not buying graphics cards seperately coz I wouldn't know what to do with them, they are just what come with the computers.

Thanx for the input anyway guys.

I second that but it really depends on your price range. If money is no obsticle then GeForce is probably a little better. Last time I checked ATI had the better midrange product but that changes about every 6 weeks or so. ATI's above 9500 or X series are good cards the 9200's and 9000's or less you need to stay away from. Also don't settle for a 64mb card as 128mb are being sold for nearly the same price. Stay away from Nvidia's 5 series as they choke on DX9. But their 6 series are very good cards.

Also buying online will save you a bundle. In some cases as much as $150 on a high end cards. Go to Pricewatch.com for a listing of online store prices.

ATI is smashin the sceen in graphics according to the articles I read there new graphics cards are putting it too even the ultra versions of the GeForce...

But as far as what you are saying I believe there was a AMD motherboard combo that did operate better because of its design with a GeForce graphics card I dunno the full ins and outs but seems like I recall hearing or reading this somewhere.

So am I right in simply saying that the '128mb GeForce card' is better than regular '64mb' one?

That's really all I want to know guys. It's lame I know but I don't have a clue about some of what your saying.

Turns out I can't afford the computer with the Athlon 64 as it's more than I first thought and I can't buy online at the moment so it's gotta be a Sempron 3000. There's one with the 128mb GeForce card or one with 64mb integrated graphics. Can't anyone just tell simply which is better??

Please people!!!! I'm such an imbacile I can't decide by myself!!!! I couldn't even decide if I wanted a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder for my lunch today. I had to get an old lady to choose for me. Ended up with a Fillet-O-Fish in the end though strangely.

My first ATI card was the Radeon 9800, and I have no regrets. Two of my friends wanted to save a few bucks so they got the 9600. They have to turn the graphic quality settings way down on some of the newer games for acceptable frame rates.

Graphics cards fall into a whole slew of considerations weather AGP or PCI weather AGP 2x 4x 8x or PCI or PCI Express... The amount of ram the speed of the ram. The GPU and thoroughput of your computer as a whole... Basically the graphics card is only going to be as strong as its weakest link. So with what you say alone in many cases more ram is better for the card but... There is many factors which will make that philosiphy wrong so the simple answer is not always.
