hi, i recently started downloading movie torrents that i would like to burn to cd-r so they'll play in my home dvd player. now i know how to do it with movies i download in vcd or svcd format because they usually come in bin and cue format.
but what about movies i download that come in xvid, mpeg, avi, or divx format how do i burn these movies to cd-r so they'll play in my home dvd player?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you purchase a better dvd player be sure that you convert your video to divx with virtual dub and the newest divx codec the bitrate calculator included with divx is like right on the money for most videos.
Not to mention I have found on numerous tests that the new divx codec out preforms in compressabilty as well as compatibility with players I wish folks would start sharing divx encoded videos again though XviD is nice because its open source it has its compatiability issues with many players and software for encoding alike. Dont abandon it if you like it though I am a firm believer in sticking with what ever makes you happy.
I myself cant wait to see a player with USB2.0 and Firewire IEEE1394a connections that will recognize movies off of external hard drives.
They have hard drive players already but they do not have a player that you can slap a plug and play already enclosed external unit into you would have to removie the hard drive from the external case and then slap it in the case provided with the player this is not my idea of hard drive connectivity.
Hope its included in future plans. As well as XviD support.

ok i have another question i've been downloading movies for the past two days and i've got about a dozen of them all in different formats. some in bin and cue, some in mpeg and avi, and some in this format "see attachment" which i believe is xvid but what i can't figure out is how to even play these files let alone convert them so can somebody please help me.
here's a screenshot of what i'm talking about when i downloaded this movie it came with 3 folders and a msinfo document. the folders were a sample of the movie which i can play and two other folders one named cd1 and the other cd2 but when i open them theres just a bunch of .rar files or whatever inside nothing like an mpeg or avi i can click on to play.
what i would like to know is how do i test play these files so i can see how cd1 or cd2 of the movie came out and do i need to convert these files somehow to have them play in my home dvd player and if so how.
any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
thanks

p.s. how can i tell the difference between mpg1 & mpeg 2, avi, and divx files is there a program that will tell me which is which?
ummm... simply unpack the file and emulate the cd image.... Filesizes are relatively 2 CD for VCD MPEG1 and for SVCD MPEG2 2-3 CDs for most movies if you right click on the file and hit properties then summary it should tell you what you need to know...
If your still stuck I'd suggest visiting a video forum. Or downloading that program gspot... To figure it out.
