This is driving me nuts, it seems every 30 minutes sometimes less. I get disonnected from the net. I cant explain it just suddenly started happening last weekend. The thing is I cant even access the router so it makes me think its my computer. Maybe its my NIC card or something I dont really know. All I know is that the family computer on the same network plugged into the same router still has internet when mine doesnt. In the background I have Xfire, Azureus, MSN Messenger and Abyss Webserver. I have McAfee firewall. Another questions just ask. I really want to get this solved.
It looks like I managed to go the whole night with out losing internet, how do I know this you might ask. Simplay becasue Im still signed onto msn in away status, so im positive I had internet all night. Which is a first, still any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm sure you know the drill. What's your machine/OS stats? What's your Internet connection DSL/Cable? Type of router? Make any changes to/Update any/Add any new programs recently before the problem developed? Check for Viruses/Spyware? Make any other configuration changes? Do you happen to have any P2P running in the background when it happens or does it do it even when you don't have any P2P apps even running? Tried googling to find answers to anyone else who may have experienced the same sort of problem you are having? A little more info goes a long way in helping to get the solution to the problem.
possibly that there is a bad cable in your town and it freezes, contracts and internet gets knocked out
since the night is consitently colder than the day, at nights where it gets below -10 or so, our internet goes out and stays out all night.
haha wow I really dropped the ball here. Ya I guess I should give more info. Im running WinXP Home with 1GB DDR400 RAM, P4 2.8GHz with HT, I have ADSL from Telus Highspeed. I have a linksys BEFSR41 wired router. The only program I have added around the time the problem started has been Azureus and I think TeamSpeak. The only p2p app running is Azureus. It seems to still do it when I am not running Azureus. I will try googling when I get back in hour or two. Not 100% sure what I should be searching for but I will try my best.
Yeah the more input you provide the better the odds of narrowing down the problem and then someone like cpu or even krell comes along and pinpoints the solution like it's nothing.
I live in Victoria BC, if the temperature goes under zero everything shuts down, mass panic erupts and the rest of canada laughs at us. The thing is when I lose net no other computer in the house does. And I cant even access the router at http://192.168.1.1Originally Posted by mcovey

I learned one new thing, running Warez got me signed out of MSN Messenger every 20 seconds. When I was downloading or searching I would keep getting signed off msn but other net connections still happened.
Sounds to me like a network configuration issue ... In some routers there is a way to set up so that a certain IP is booted from a certain time to a certain time... It could also be that someone is changing settings on the router which require it to reboot the connections even if they say they are not...
I've delt with this before a time or two with the rommate... Your best bet is probably to run static and be sure to keep your networked IP and dns servers there chances are someone is playing a game and restarting the router because your downloads are making his/her ping shitty when playing a game though most times they wont admit to it simply keep your dns server static and run in the DMZ cause chances are whoever is powering on and off the router is simply getting pissed and has no Idea how it works. So it in fact beats constantly setting your ports upon powering down and up then run a sofware firewall.
If this is not in the slightest relm of possiblity it is either your cabling or your NIC which is causing the issue I'd troubleshoot the cabling first.

I dont think that is the problem, no one in the house knows how to configure the router (my family isnt a very bright bunch). Secondly I dont think my dad would keep unplugging the router. One thing I found out today is that I dont seem to have this problem in linux. I ran Mandrake 10 for 4 hours no problems net access the whole time. Ran windows for 30 minutes got disconnected twice. Any other thoughts.
Possibly SP2 internet patch have something to do with it hell if I know connectivity problems... Sometimes the NIC or router itself will cause these disconnections but usually when this happens the whole network goes down... Could also be your firewall...

it would be interesting to know if it did the same thing with the router taken out of the setup.

I imagine it would, maybe I will try it later. It wont be SP2 patch thing because I still use SP1 so I havent patched it. I hope I can get this all sorted out by the weekend, Guildwars beta is coming up. Dont want to be getting disconnected every 30 minutes while playing.
