    Sounds keeps crapping out. Help?

    Hi everyone,

I have a problem whenever I plug my headphones into my pc speakers headphone jack my sound just totally craps out on my computer. Ive checked drivers they are all running fine. Personally I think its the speakers but I duno im just double checking to see if its something else. They are cyber accroustics something another model. 2.1 speaker system. I bought it at best buy but lost the receip they worked like crap from the start I just dont wanna go out and buy new ones when I just bought these. I learnt my lesson tho only go with known companies. Anyway if anyone can think of another reason why it would crap out my speakers information would begreat. I have a feeling its a short or something.

If I am understanding it correctly, it seems that they (the speakers) might be doing exactly what they were made to do. You said the sound craps out on your computer. Does this mean you receive no sound from either the headphones or the speakers? Or does plugging in the headphones on the speakers just silence the speakers themselves?

Having said it has always been this way, it could be a faulty product. You may also want to install/plug-in another pair of speakers and/or headphones and see what happens. Good luck.

Yes, most sound setups will configure to adjust to headphones or speakers not both ... But one way to enable both may be in the volume control settings value simply by unchecking the device you wish to play through... It is possible that an updated driver or something may have caused what is considered to be standard functionality though differnt to you to take place but if this is the case you should beable to enable both with volume control.

If you just have headphones chances are it is the wire attached to the speakers within the headphones and you will need a new pair.

If I'm Understaning you correctly it sounds like a contact problem (like Spongebob said) not a software problem. By this I mean solder points may be failing. A 15w Radio Shack Solder Kit can fix the problem in about five minutes. If don't want to screw with that then you can get a new sound card from $20-$200 dollars depending on what your after.

No both the headphones and the speakers get no sound, I can even unplug the headphone jack and no sound comes out anymore. And for some reason if I do it with winamp it wont even run songs. So it seems quite odd. I basically have to restart my computer to get sound again.

And I was debating about opening it up to see if any cables our touching something they shouldnt be or anything out of place.

Anyone know the return policy for best buy. I bought it like 4 months ago can I still return it if I find my receit?

I have experienced a "return policy" for Best Buy recently. Thanks to a particular bastard child, we got stuck with an identical copy of game software because "somebody" opened the product.

Luckily for you, I have a receipt right in front of me.

Back of the Best Buy Receipt:
    • Your original receipt is required for all returns, exchanges, price matches and warranty repair services. All returns, exchanges, and price adjustments must be made in the country of original purchase.
    • We accept returns and exchanges 14 days from the original date of purchase on Computers, Monitors, Printers, Notebook Computers, Camcorders, Digital Cameras, and Radar Detectors.
    • We accept returns or exchanges 30 days from the original date of purchase on our merchandise (excluding items listed above) containing all original packaging and accessories.
    • You may only EXCHANGE Computer Software, DVD or VHS Videos, Video Games, and Music for the same title, if the original is defective.
    • No refund on labor or installation services. No returns on opened: Computer Software, DVD or VHS Videos, Video Games and Music.
    • Refunds of cash purchases over $250 and check purchases over $100 will be issued by check from our corporate office within 14 business days of return.
    • Restocking Fees will be applied to ANY product not returned in 'like new condition' including missing the original box, packaging materials, or contents, accessories, or manuals. A 15% restocking fee will be charged on returns or exchanges of any opened: notebook computer, camcorder, digital camera or radar detector, unless defective.
    • The BestBuy.com™ site's policies may vary from our in-store policies. Please see www.bestbuy.com for complete details and the BestBuy.com privacy statement.
    • See your local Best Buy store for further details.
From the looks of it, I'd say you were S.O.L.

    Sorry.

It is possible that a codec pack may have caused this issue it is also possible that your sound card is dead which I hope is not the case. I would make sure you have the latest drivers as well... You say it is a card as well if you have onboard audio disable it in the bios...

Also check the Device Manager to see if there are any conflicts with the card and make sure the card is being detected by the ESCD area of the registry (Plug and Play) if its not being detected at all or there is a conflict you can try making sure that it isnt conflicting with other I/O hardware port settings...

If all else fails new soundcard time.

Why not go PCI with an audigy clearly this is a nice card with fringe benifits and cheap enough off ebay.

Not to mention good quality sound and if you change main boards its not like your card wont be supported.

    Go with the audigy man.
