Me 2 Dumb, need smart people help

it's been days now and i can't get emule to work.
    the port test always fails.

i've read the help files, unblocked emule on my winxp firewall.tried creating the 4662 4672 tcp/udp ports and opening them up, doesn't seem to help and half the time whatever numbers i set the ip thingy to above the port numbers,it's changed when i go back to double check them.

really don't know what i'm doing wrong.as far as i know i've allowed emule all the access it requires and have reinstalled and unblocked it on my firewall several times.

theres something on the test thing when it fails that says something like (cache-loh-aa7.proxy.aol.com 195.93.32.13.

anybody have any ideas coz i'm about to smash this bloody computer up in a rage over my own apparent stupidity :(

i can try shareaza in the meantime however could anyone tell me if there is anything else i can do other than simply allowing emule access by unblocking it on my winmx firewall.

i can't figure any of this port forwarding stuff out u see and even after setting up a tcp and udp port with the numbers given in the help file.it still isn't working

I think AOL may have a firewall also, call them and tell them some of your apps are not working so you need to open ports for your apps. BTW, you don't need to use default TCP/UDP ports. You can change them to use 10,000 or above in case ISP is blocking those ports!

Do eMule say you have a low ID or only the port test? :)

A little test to figure out if its router configurations is to slap your networked IP into the DMZ or demiliterized zone and then run your program if it works then you have to figure out how to forward your ports correctly or you should get a software firewall and allow access to that program on your software firewall like sygate personal firewall for instance.
