    problem converting video

Im trying to convert a video I obtained from eXeem. The video in question is a screener. so maybe that has something to do with it. WMP10 crashes everytime I try to open the video but VLC Media Player can play it fine. My other problem is that when converting with WinAVI from divx to dvd it crashes when it goes to start converting. I ran AVICodec and all looked normal. Anyhelp would be appreciated. :tilted

Do you have GSpot? All the codecs installed? VirtualDub? TMPGEnc Xpress & TMPGEnc DVD Author?

got it all, never had any problem before. I want to convert it with winavi because its easier and faster. TMPG always takes like 4 hours+ and is really complicated

Using your WinAVI to encode straight from divx to dvd format may be the problem, as WinAVI may not be able to process audio stream that was encoded by other codec, etc.! There are no program that can handle it all, sometime you have to do them step by step instead. So if WinAVI fail, try something else.

My default answer to this question is NeroVision Express. It's part of the latest Nero release.
I've used just about every video converter out there with varying results, and this ons has never let me down.

    In Nerovision Express:
    -Make DVD --> DVD Video
-Drag your movie into the main window, or browse for them with the "add video files" tab.
-Unless you want to take the time to make a cheesy menu, click "more" and uncheck "create menu on disc".
-If it's a multi-file movie (common with divx DVD rips), select both parts and click the small blue button on the left to "merge titles". If you don't do this there will be a noticeable skip half way through the movie.
You can add several files, but going over 2 hours in length will cause Nero to shrink the video after it transcodes it to mpeg2. It will offer a confirmation window if this is the case.
-Click "next" and you can preview the video as it will appear on your DVD.
-Click next again to go to the burning menu. Select the proper recording device and then wait. It's going to take a while to transcode.

Nerovision just seems to shut down for no reason when I get to the folder with the video. No errors no nothing. Just shuts down

Try copying the movie to a new folder then get a program called divfix strip and rebuild the index of the movie.

If that dont work may be an audio issue...

To figure this out run virtual dub mod and rip the audio to wav format. Then take besweet and reencode it to a CBR mp3 bitrate. If the encoding fails chances are theres something currupt within the audio.

If it works run a direct stream copy of the video with no audio using regular virtual dub.

Then open up virtual dub mod and slap the audio that you created CBR on the video you created with no sound. And use direct stream copy.

Then try to encode your movie if none of the above work you may have a currupted movie with frozen or bad frames you could use virtual dub to cut out these chunks of bad frames.

What ever you do maintain an original copy of the movie when you strip the index somewhere else on the hard drive.

winavi (5.6) is the buggiest program i've ever used. it crahes after every conversion, i have to resize to maintain the same size and there are blatant spelling mistakes, eg cancel - cannel

Downloading a screener with eXeem? Might as well wait by the mail box for your next letter. This aint the Samuel Adams of P2P.

Its not always a fine choice.

Roflmao screeners are most times crappy quality anyhow and the annoyances of the dam this is a copy for evaluation or whatever popping up constantly is utterly annoying I dont even see the purpose of sharing this crap hell I'd rather wait the extra week or month to get an actual DVD RIP ...
