the last of the orignal developers of winamp has quit
signalling the end of an era, arguably the first free mp3 player

Gives room for AOL to take over, i guess Winamp 2 and Winamp 5 will be the most widly used versions of Winamp for years to come... until everyone ends up forgetting about Nullsoft :/
Try Quintessential player ... with the SCLister plugin it can get shoutcast streams and is arguably as good.
I've tried that player before it really sucks, plus it looks ugly too (though looks are not everything) it seem bloated to me.
I'll keep enjoying Winamp v5 until something better comes along
winamp has most wide variety of plugin
streamripper - rips streams, and saves each song as seperate file
get foobar2000.

personaly i find it no great loss i hate winamp
Been using Foobar for a long time. It's the best!! Winamp came with my comp. I've never used it.
Winamp will be continued in some form or another...right now AOL uses RealPlayer as there integrated player...it has been posted by AOL that they would like to use Winamp to do this instead...
Im still using winamp to play my music, a very old version though. 2.74
Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.
You can get v5.08 with the "old classic look" with all the security fixes and stuff, plus it's build on v2
foobar's website is down.
Actually i dont worry about security fixes, as it is only used for music, and not permitted to connect to the internet.

I don't see why AOL didn't use the purchases it had made to try to make AOL better and different. Winamp instead of Real Player, Netscape instead of Internet Explorer, etc. They make purchases and do nothing with them. That's why they are losing money.Originally Posted by lion7718
I like Winamp. I'm sure it won't disappear, but the new developers better not run it into the ground to make sure it dies.

AOL uses Netscape in a lower $10 a month sevice called Tahiti..still in Beta I think
as for Winamp..I think the problem was with how Winamp Streamed Videos...
once that is fixed..I guess it will be part of AOL...although, when you install AOL it drops the Winamp Setup anyway...just not built in yet.....
