Unhappy Speeds dropped when file sharing

I have used file sharing programs without any problems for a good while, mostly bittorrent, shareaza and soulseek. I have a 512 adsl connection and have always had good speed until about three weeks ago. Now my download speeds have dropped from a usual 20-60 k/Bps to about 1-6 k/Bps and I don't get it. I haven't changed anything on my pc, I don't have a router. If anyone can suggest what the problem might be I would be very grateful.

well in part it depends on the user that uploads to you, also if you have a firewall this has worked for me with norton, remove the entry of the program in the firewall and let it configer itself again.
depending on the program try changing the port,

I have changed the ports and configured the SP2 firewall, in fact i've even turned the firewall off and it makes no difference. Is it likely to be Tiscali (my ISP) restricting my file sharing?

i can only tell you about shareaza
    go
    here
so now you have to download sp2 patch

Run the patch, and reboot your computer. There is no need to change any files or anything. After you have patched SP2 Windows will ask you to restore some files, Choose to CANCEL.

After you have patched SP2 and rebooted your computer, please change back these "Advanced" settings in Shareaza:

    Gnutella.ConnectFactor
can be increased to 4 or 5 to improve connect speed.(Default: 5)

    ____________________________________

    Downloads.ConnectThrottle
should be set to 250 - 500, depending on your connection. (If you router regularly gives you trouble, you might want to increase this.) (Default: 100 ms )

    ____________________________________

    Downloads.MaxFileSearches
    should be set between 1 and 4. (1 for low bandwidth users, 3 for high.)(Default: 4 )

    ____________________________________

    Downloads.MaxConnectingSources
can be set to 20. (default 50)

Controls the number of simultaneous download connections in the connecting state. This is useful for users of Windows XP SP 2 because there is a new limit on the number of connections in the connecting state.

    finally run this test

I already had the patch and have set it to 50. In Shareaza settings on my version (2.1.0.0) which I believe is the latest one I can't find the advanced settings mentioned in your message. I have run the test and it says all is ok. I used to get the fast speeds I mentioned before even with SP2 up until 3 weeks ago. This is why I'm so confused as to why my file sharing downloads across the board have slowed so much. I think it's got to be my ISP or something thats happened to my computer.

Thanks for that, I have changed all the settings you suggested and tried downloading a couple of files with loads of sources but the speed is no better, I'm 1-6 kB/s instead of speeds well over 10 times faster that I used to get. Also I have messed with the settings on Azureus (BT client) and that hasn't helped either. I really believe its something different than settings, it's got to be my ISP or something else!
