    Some Statistics on Ants

I'm gona post some statistics for you guys to kick around.

    ver .0.8.1
    Uptime 57 hrs 7 min
    compressed download 2% upload 4%
total download 1,750 mb total upload 2,311 mb (proxied files plus own file transfers)
own download 121 mb own upload 513 mb (own files transferd only)

i don't download muc cause i have everything so the own files downloaded can be discounted. I am contantly uploading. it seems i have very popular filesto share. My max download speed is about 100 kb/s , my max upload speed is about 13 kb/s on my dsl line

For now, that the good, the bad and the ugly.

You must be in an old channel. The correct channel is #antsp2p the server is irc.us.azzurra.org you can view that chanel with any irc program (mirc, mozilla chat, etc.)

At current there are 35 users in the channel. the most i have seen was 47 yesterday. Someimes on off hours it getsto a low of 20.

I invite other users to post their stats for comparison sake. My stats show that i am using almost 100% of my upload bandwith. the current ratio is about 78% for proxying other users files and 22% for uploading my own files. On a few occasion i have come near a 50-50 split but that is rare. My tests focus on uploading because that bandwidth is more limited for most people. In any p2p network, even with swarming, your total downloads on the network are limited by total uploads.

tsafa Do you understand this bandwidth control setting as I don't?

my connection speed 512 kbits down 256 kbits up

So what should my setting be?

    Should it be 256 kbits?

    Or Should it be 50 K b/s?

I really do not understand the units.

Is it in same units as 512/256 or is in in same units as when you download for me at top speed 60 K b/s?

Unless i missed something, just set your seyting to DSL . The rest will be automaticly set.

The bandwidth contol mean that in your case your max cpacity for uploads and downloads will be 256 kbits. prior to this version you had an imballance where you could download more then you could upload. This caused a probelms when you were proxying files, resulting in a lot of information being lost. The loss of information made the transfers stick.

The bandwith control is automatic. keep your settings as you had them. When Gwren gave me the update, he did not tell me to make any further adjustments. We will ask him when we see him in the channel, but lets not change any settings untill he tells us.

also, post your stats here with your peer info so we can see whats going on.

Of course Gwren, figured it out. Its a sure bet that the same applies to mute, since Ants routing theory is based on mute. I sent an email to the mute developers regarding this new discovery and solution.

abc, your download stats look good. i'm concerned about your upload stats. The ratio between your own uploads and total uploads should be close to 50% or at least above 30% . Do you find that you have 0 speed uploads or .1 kb/s uploads. or are your shared files just not popular ;-P This version specificly targeted that issue off 0 speed uploads (stuck downloads)

    uptime 11 hrs 5 min
    compr down 4% up 3%
total down 1612 mb up 2369 mb
own down 43 mb up 373 mb

The ratio for my uploads is low too now. I think the throtel slider may need adjustment.
on the settings panel i see the bandwidth throtel the defualt for my cable conection is 500 kb/s for EACH neigbor. I think that is way too high. I figure that for 10 neighbors the limit should neigbor sould not the limit be more like 7 kb/s for each neighbor??? sent email to gwren

The biggest issue is the amount of bandwidth being used on a contstant basis many ISP's take note of the amount of bandwidth you use even though your connection is "Unlimited" If you download gigs and gigs of information daily eventually your ISP is going to step in and say something to you for using up a large amount of bandwidth on your node. Maxing out your bandwidth downloading or uploading at top speed is a tell tale sign for some providers... Though the proxing of information is totallly legal on the other hand... I really do however say that in all actuality theres no way to prove if you were simply proxying data or downloading the file short of checking your harddrive and even then whos to say that you didnt rip that movie from a dvd you borrowed from a friend or a cd that you borrowed from a friend or at one time you didnt own the movie or cd from which you ripped it off of ...

So really in truth there is no plausible case against anyone yet that can be mounted thats why I love the concept of this program.

infriger, has you ISP actualy sent you or anyone you know a warning? They make a general statement against filesharing, but that is just so they can keep themselves legaly out of the fight withthe RIAA/MPAA . For the most part know if it was not for p2p programs we would all still be on 56 k connections. on two occasion, when i was resloving connections problems, I told the tech i run my p2p programs 24/7, they seemed fine with it. They just wanted to get it working again so they could continue the monthly billing.

I would not mind using ANTs, but frankly, having only 35 people in a channel just doesn't cut it for me. If it ever gets as big as the content shared on edonkey or Bit Torrent, I may give it a try, but the network itself seems too small for me right now......
