Question ? portable player that: mp3, flac, shn, monkey, ape

I can't believe how many people I know are buying iPods {muffled gagging noise}. I saw one a while ago whose name I cannot recal that among other things played mp3, flac, shn, ape, and monkey and could sample music from the radio and name the song title and author.

What other players fit this bill?

never heard of a player that could do ALL that before....I think u might have made that up...

even though I am a happy PC user, I'm happy with my iPod....and recomend that as the music player.....although I heard some really good things about the Rio Karma...or something like that .....
I think that comes the closest to the iPod.

Maybe it was one of those Windows Media Center based players? That sounds feasible. Could it fix toast and wipe your arse too?

Nothing wrong with iPods, though. If you've got many gigs of .mp3 music already then I suppose it doesn't matter if it plays monkey audio or not... and .shn would fill up even a huge hard drive-based player pretty quick.

The iPod is a great device. That doesn't mean its perfect, though. If thats what you're looking for (and judging by your list of wanted formats, you are), good luck.

Some players allow you to download plug-ins so you can use new formats.

I think the best bet is to think CDR/DVDR for files eventually there will be portable players that will play these formats at some time or another that will read the info from there and are just as easily portable. Not only is it portable but is more cost effective then say an IPOD. I swear by the rewriteable drive I'd like to see a portable player which allows you to add your codecs at will now that would be a player worth buying.

    Talking this

That sounds vaguely like a Neuros

I think it plays FLAC, but it does have those other features. PLUS it has a built in FM transmisster so you can EASILY use it in any car.
