Hello just thought that I would tell you all that I recieved an e-mail from my ISP today regarding a file I downloaded off BT, I got the torrent from LokiTorrents. Im not sure if this is the right section of the forum to post this and if a mod wants to move it by all means. But basically my parents just got an e-mail from Telus (our ISP) saying that they recieved a copyright complaint from someone regarding a file I downloaded off BT, if anyone is really curious to know what that file was PM I dont think posting it here would be very wise. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do now.
EDIT: I live in Canada if anyone hadnt figured that out by themselves :upside
More likely its just a warning so just delete the file in question.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".
so I should uninstall the game, also the company in question is Atari
Nothing much you can do but forget about it or lay off BT. I've got 2 notices. The second one really sucked because I had stopped using BT like forever then there was one movie I just had to have so I grabbed it and got nailed. Bummer. Now I don't really worry about it at all and don't think you should either. Only worry if your ISP wants to cut you off, which they don't want to do.
Hard as ever and here to make you people believe...as long as there is one person to hold hope and dream...A GOD...will never die!
out of curiosity who is your ISP. another thing that may act as a saving grace for us is that we have been telus customers for 7 years or something and have internet, wireless and phone service all through and have the super deluxe whatever all of them. And I have pretty much forgotten about it, I figure its scare tactics anyways no one has actually been sued over a game yet have they. But I will lay off for a bit probably a couple months atleast. Its going to hard though, im what one could call a BT addict.
Charter. The chances of being sued are close to zero. I'm sure they send out thousands of letters a week.

send them a christmas card and wish them a happy holiday
is it safe to assume at the time being I shouldnt have to worry about downloading music in canada do I and what about movies. Games I can see but im curious about the other two
well, if i were you, i'd lay off of any sharing for a while (at least copyrighted material). i don't think it would bode too well if you got another notice on the heels of your first one - your isp would probably start thinking you're a problem customer. try looking into newsgroups or sticking to smaller networks, and if you're going to share, shy away from major artists/movies/etc.
If you think news groups is the way to go then maybe I will give it a try. I never really understood newsgroups but maybe now is a good time to try and learn
Shit your pants and keep on going.

Join the club man thats kinda why I have stopped d/l anything and I have been focusing on security basically. Dam ISP's give you the DMCA violation shut down your internet for downloading screw em I can rip my chit just as easy I buy enough.
Your best bet is if you get a paper to sign dont sign it cause you are admitting that you are guilty by signing there agreement.
Then switch your broadband ISP if you have another local provider somewhere and screw signing the papers and just watch what, how, who, and where you download from or upload too.
As far as movies go just rent or loan from a friend and rip if you dont feel the movie is worth what it costs same for CD's... Thats what I'd do I know there is many people who will probably disagree and go all out chances are they are talking big cause they havent been in your position.
Theres more then one way to skin a cat and it's all about options until there is a solid release of a 3rd generation p2p with a solid user base I would say stick to ripping your own media and frineds media, if you are strapped for cash. You would be supprised at the qualities you can achive by doing the stuff yourself rather then downloading anyhow.
Theres also a CD/DVD swap site called media chest that one guy mentioned. Hey anythings worth a try man just explore your options. And take necasary precautions you aint a wimp just cause you dont want a fine or to sit in jail just ignore all the macho babble and look into options its easy to say chit when your not under the gun.

Say, Black, I just wanna encourage your interest in newsgroups. Once you get it all rolling it's like picking digital fruit off the binary tree. Okay that was stupid, but USENET is totally sweet... and FAST if you get a good account.
