Exclamation Missing DLL file after deleting spyware

I recently downloaded spybot and did a scan. It found about 9 red spyware problems right off the bat and so chose the option to delete the files. However, while in the process of deleting the files it said that there was a problem and instructed me to restart and rescan on a fresh boot up. I did but as i entered back into windows a message came up that a file called "c:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll" is missing. I assume I that its gone, and that it was a spyware file and I simply would like to get rid of the errror message from coming up every time i log into windows. Thanks for any help!

there is likely a stray startup item in the registry.

first, have you ever edited the registry before? (that's the easiest way to knock out the problem, but potentially dangerous if you don't know what you're doing)

if not, here's a little program called startup control panel that will allow you to see what runs on startup in your system, and let you remove the one generating the error. if you can post what's starting up, i should be able to help you figure out which one it is.

    hpdj taskbar utility
    hphmon05
    nerocheck
    nforce tray options
    quick time task
    wildtangent cda
    zbrowser launcher

Those are the program names that are in the HKLM/Run tab. I unchecked the wild tangent one, any others that look unusual? Any idea how the wild tangent one got there in the first place? Thanks for the program!

You seem to have alot of things running 24/7. And that's just in 1 Run key. You don't necessarily have to have all those updaters and control panels running all the time. They can be opened manually when needed, but since you didn't complain about a slow computer maybe efficiency isn't a factor for you.
You can get WildTangent installed from any website using the ActiveX component in IE. I use another Mike Lin program to help with that. http://mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml

i believe wildtangent comes with aol instant messenger, but i'm not positive about that...i know it's popped up on my system before too.

but aside from that wildtangent, everything looks good to me.

nerocheck and qttask can definately go.
all the hp ones can probably go.
nforce tray options can go if you want.

It, along with Viewpoint Media Player, definitely comes with AIM. Wildtangent is a piece of garbage, as far as I'm concerened, and is used primarily to play games through AIM.
