There are applications which allow shared/distributed tasks between computers over a network...

would it be possible to do the same with bittorent downloading the file say to a virtual shared drive or something?

Or if not is there a way to use two clients to download the same file at the same time?

I don't think it could work without modifying the current protocol at both the client and tracker ends.
