I have 4 original cds that are longer than 74 minutes and my cd bruner doesn't support overburning. Also, I have complete cds in single mp3 trakcs that are longer too (even with silences shaved from the beginning and end of each track). I want the whole cd intact of course. So, most importantly, how do get these onto cd-r ? Secondly, I am wondering how my stereo plays the original when it is over 77 minutes without cutting off the end of the song? TIA, Jen.

A 700MB CD-R is 80 min, now they are coming out with 800MB, but there still rare.
As well as 74 minute CDRs, they come in two more flavours : 80 minute, and 90 minutes.
You need to buy different CDRs!
If you want to copy your long CDs buy some 80minute CDs. I always use these, as quite a lot of albums are over 74 mins.
All CD writers support 80 min WITHOUT overburning.
Not all writers support the big daddy 90 minutes, though. You will never need these to copy audio CDs though.
If I was you, I wouldn't put albums out as one big MP3. Split it up first. Otherwisethe CD player will think there is only one track on the CD.
Why are you backing up your audio Cds, anyways? Just look after them, they'll last ages.

I back mine up for the car as well cause all that shuffling and stuff changing them around is gonna scratch them up. I always use my burned copies to tote around with me, if sumpin happens to them, I can just burn a new copy :-) and I DO have 80 min cds but couldn't copy them with CloneCd, Sony CD Extreme, or Adaptec EasyCd. Could it be the software??

Try Nero. Burns my 80s fine. If it doesn't work get a new CDRW. Get an OEM one as they're cheaper.
How about MusicMatch Plus? I have it, yet I'm still using Apaptec Easy CD Creator 4, simply because it's what I'm used to.
I know squat about Nero, but it is popular is it not? I should give it a try.. ty . Any other suggestions are welcomed. Jen.

At first I'd say no its not the software because I have easy cd creator 4 and 80 minute ones work fine. But it could be the software because some programs are not compatible with the burner, so they'll work only half the time or so. Try Nero.

Don't worry 'bout Nero, it's easy to use. It has a wizard.

Nero has also another app especially for music called NeroMix, it also has a wizard and is very good.
Try that one. It burns the titles as well onto the cd and has a mixing mode to have tracks fade into each other if you like.
