Upload Problems

I have been using WinMx for several months without any problems. Last night went I went to bed everyone was working fine. When I checked on WinMx this morning, however, I noticed that everyone whose turn came up in my que timed out with the exception of one user who was able to download multiple files. I have tried the following things but the problem with people consistently timing out persists: (1) disabled Norton Personal Firewall (Windows XP SP2 firewall was already disabled); (2) confirmed proper port routing on my Linksys router; (3) tried alternative ports on WinMX after properly mapping them on my router; (4) used Windows XP System Restore to go back to a point everything was working fine; and (5) installed WinMx 3.53 (I had been using version 3.31. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Just today i noticed the same thing. very strange. I check all my firewall connections and everything. No luck. I have to use a secondary connection for a bit. I hope this passes..but i do wonder what is wrong.

I was finally able to solve my upload timing out problem by setting the TCP port to 443 and the UDP port to 1032 (and of course reconfigering my router to match). I tried numerous other port combinations but these were the only ones that I found to work. I suspect that the problem may be the result of my ISP, Cox Cable, blocking certain ports since the problem cropped up over night without any changes to my hardware or software.

Same problem over here too. Yesterday was fine but today nobody is getting thru to my files...
I've got Comcast....
Any port suggestions would be welcome...

You have caused a large amount of stress in my life to simply "go away". Thank you. I changed and mapped the respective ports mentioned above and it worked like a CHARM! I too have cox and starting having the same problems as everyone else here around the same time, which makes me wonder if they are playing a part in our upload/download problems. Either way, It works now and my performance on the job will no longer suffer from lack of new material. You are FIERCE!

Cox is indeed trying to block cox customers from using winmx.

The rep told me I could try bypassing them, but that I would be caught.

I'll be shopping for a new ISP tommorow, any suggestions?

I see this as being a growing problem with P2P applications as I mentioned before one way to solve this issue would be maditory updates with standard port changes for every update or every other update...

Something for the developers of the application to look into.

As I am not supprised that normal ISP's will use the same port blocking which collage campuses are using...

I really hope that the developers are aware of this.

I am glad I found this site and know that I am not the only person experience this problem. So I was wondering in your guys earlier discussion, are you all use the Primary Connection or Secondary connection? I was trying to change my UDP to porn 1032 and 443 for TCP/IP but have the problem. Also I am not behind any rounters. I got a cable modem direct direct connect to my PC. Can this be the reason I can't allow other user download from me?
I appreciate if anyone can reply my question. Thanks

I have Cox on my end also and I am experienceing the same problems still. I also need help on configuring my Linksys router for WinMX if I even need to for my desktop being my primary connection. I just noticed that WinMX was acting up as soon as I hooked up the wireless. Can anyone help me?

Go with a DSL a company they don't care what you do with your internet connection because it is a dedicated line, you are the only one using it.

Cable companies don't like people uploading because 1# cable does not handle upload as well as it handles download and 2# their lines are shared so if they start getting a lot of uploads their lines can easily get overloaded and start having problems. Most cable campanies have rules that you can't run servers or other things like that, i.e. p2p with high upload.

The second problem with cable companies is they are to closely related to the MPAA and tend to give your info to the MPAA a lot easier.

Another good thing about DSL is that it is getting cheaper, before it was more money then cable but now DSL is cheaper then cable in most places.

I have used both cable and DSL, I hated the cable nothing but problems, loving the DSL not one problem.

Hey Beta17,how did you ever figure these ports out? I just re-dl'd winmx and these ports worked fine,no upload problems anymore. The date is 8/26/2006 and they still work fine for me,a Cox subscriber. Thanks again.:icon_salu
