    More Memory Please

I'm looking to pick up a 512mb stick, maybe a gig depending on price, for a Dell Notebook

Any recomendations on where to find the best deals?

    Thanks in advance

Looks like CompUSA is selling 512 sticks for $53.99 after the rebate. Thats probably the best deal you are going to get.

Try newegg.com also, they are selling 512 sticks for around 79 bucks..

Please excuse me if you already know this, but make sure that you get the right memory for your machine. I've heard, but not confirmed personally, that the wrong memory can slow your PC down.

Yeh....well....it won't work at all if it's the wrong type of Ram. Either check out what type of ram can run on you motherboard, or look to see what kinda ram is already in you motherboard.

@doppelganger: Notebooks use SO-DIMMS. Dont worry about speed, you can get faster ram and it will run at the lower clock just fine.

Good fucking luck trying to jam in those sticks slycktom linked you to, they are desktop memory, not notebook memory.

@ratfink - depends on what the "wrong" type of memory you are referring to. If it is a different type of ram (RIMM's in a DDR DIMM socket, for example, if you even dared to try that), then it simply wont even boot. You may also get slower ram, but it wont magically make your machine run like garbage.

Hell, you can pick up a paired 1GB of DDR400 from PDP (Patriot Memory) @ 2-3-2-5 T1, for like, $161, insanely cheap, and good for the budget gamer.

(This is DDR desktop memory, not notebook memory.) It's better than the kingston ones above, because the timings are much tighter.

Malakai - Those patriot sticks.. can you fit them right next to each other with those heat spreaders on them? I'd like to get 2 pair of those, so I can have 2 GB in my 4 DIMM slots, but somehow I don't think those'll fit good next to each other.
My current setup stats (like anyone cares...):

    ASUS A8N32-SLI Motherboard
    AMD 4400+ Dual-Core CPU
    Windows Vista (Ultimate 32bit)
2 GB (2x1GB) Corsair XMS RAM
2x250 GB (in RAID 0) HDDs
EVGA GeForce 7950 GTX 512 MB
    Creative X-FI Fatal1ty XtremeGamer

    Also sporting a black MacBook
    Revision/Release 1
    Upgraded to 2GB RAM.

Yep, theres room. I place heatspreaders of similar size on all the computers I build.
