PestPatrol claims that ares is a moderate risk for this reason(picked up on scan):
Ares is a Bruteforce cracker used on password-protected websites. After several attempts this tool can change to another proxy-server in order to avoid being discovered or being locked out of the attacked system. Ares offers one the opportunity of testing a proxy server's stability and anonymity.
Password Cracker: A tool to decrypt a password or password file. PestPatrol uses the term both for programs that take an algorithmic approach to cracking, as well as those that use brute force with a password cracking word list. Password crackers have legitimate uses by security administrators, who want to find weak passwords in order to change them and improve system security.
And it says this about Shareaza:
P2P: Any peer-to-peer file swapping program, such as Audiogalaxy, Bearshare, Blubster, E-Mule, Gnucleus, Grokster, Imesh, KaZaa, KaZaa Lite, Limewire, Morpheus, Shareaza, WinMX and Xolox. In an organization, can degrade network performance and consume vast amounts of storage. May create security issues as outsiders are granted access to internal files. Often bundled with Adware or Spyware.
What a bunch of shit!
CAPITAL punishment for infringement is a CAPITAList's dream.
This is crap how come i've never been able to use ares as a password cracker. What a jip.
The Ares cracker is just a name coincidence I'd think.
Shareaza supposed to be clean. It is true that sensitive files can be inadvertently shared by not-so-bright users. Obviously any p2p uses bandwidth and disk space that can be reserved for more important tasks, outside of the home where it'd matter.
There is a program that is used for cracking called ares, though it's far from popular if I remember correctly, I'm assuming that the scanner is referring to that. There's no excuse for the other warning though, that's like saying "jumping may cause you to fall back to the surface you jumped from, and pissing into the wind can cause you to soil yourself."
How's about them apples?
ahhh gotta love peeing into the wind
Hmmmm.... Ares, Wares... Hmmm.....
My name is *** and I like Internet Porn
I know it's wrong....it seems like Pest Patrol is anti-P2P and I wonder if it's saying this about Ares on purpose or just coincidence.
CAPITAL punishment for infringement is a CAPITAList's dream.
The business community and government is anti p2p unless they can use it and sell it back to you for a profit.Originally Posted by Ne007

Notice all of the anti-p2p propaganda? It is not by accident. There are powerful business forces that want to remind people, every day, that p2p is bad, illegal, scary.
Businesses support jounalists, who work for companies that produce what helps the advertising business sell more product.
Is it not a feat sublime? Intellect hath conquered time.
