1 Ga-zillion ZeroPaid Points for the correct answer...

Got this blue screen and message:

    STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
    \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SECURITY
    or its log or alternate.
It is currupt, absent or not writable.
    Beginning dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk: xx

It goes thru a check disk and all's ok (I assume that the hd is ok...),
then I get the message and blue screen of death.

Tried booting off of the XP cd and - nothing.
I've tried going to "Safe" mode and - it won't.
I've tried bring up the command prompt and - nothing.
    Can't get the recovery console.

I've been surfing the net for a solution (Google) and I keep coming up with different solutions

    Ant solutions???

There's one guaranteed solution: reinstall windows.

    Good luck. ^_-

Make a backup of your registry next time, perhaps?

Reformat before the reinstall if that's what you decide to do. I seem to remember something about recovery thing in the installation of XP, might wanna try that, other than that, I don't know.
    How's about them apples?

I'm using an older pc that was in the closet, so, I'm going back and forth.
I just went into the bios (had to use "delete". the cd-rom is the first boot and it still won't boot the XP cd.
I've tried :safe mode, safe mode with networking, command prompt, last known config, windows - normal...still gets the BSOD (blue screen of death.
Before if goes into the bsod, it goes thru a check disk and it states this:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.

The *7%(%(9 thing won't let me do a &^$*^ thing!!!!!

It goes right back to the bsod.
I can't get to the recovery console because it won't let me boot from anywhere.

(i betcha Bill Gates has a Mac)
    (I betch he's running Linux)

    I can't get to a command prompt.

    (*&^*&6 windows !!!!!!!!1

I'm going Redhat as soon as I get every trace of Windows from off of this pc.

    _(*^*)*(*&_(^) Bill Gates

    Thanks all !!!!

    No, I don't have a boot disk.

I can't boot from the cd-rom even though the bios is setup for the cd-rom being first boot.

Soak your registry in salt water for 4 hours, then grab the hair dryer and hop in.

I have the answer and it is Linux!

The problem by the way is windows, and the mere fact that it KEEPS a registry, which is stupid.

I have to agree with Crazy Horse, it has been awhile since I have seen that kind of error (BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH NOTIFICATION) and it was in an older computer that I had, but the problem was a hard drive crash. (That or it has a brain slug)
Just for information what kind of system do you have and how old is it?
