Windows XP SP2 Opens Door For Everyone
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows XP SP 2 with expanded security technology will assist you to protect your PC against Viruses, Trojans and hackers. This is the advertising on the German webpages for SP2.
What the windows manufacture is not telling you is: Instead of Viruses, Torjans or Hackers the so called secure SP3 for Windows XP allow normal internet users to browse through your files on our PC.
As soon as you install SP2 on certain configurations your File- and Printer sharing function is worldwide visible despite the active firewall functions. The PC only needs to have internal file sharing for your local LAN activated and be connected to the internet (via Modem or ISDN). DSL users are also in danger of this unless their DLS Modem has an integrated firewall or a DSL Router. However the function Share this internet connection must be deactivated.

Another reason not to install SP2. Im glad I've held off
Interesting... but...
- I unbind "File and Print Sharing" from all adapters during setup, and any adapters not detected during setup get it unbound after I configure the adapter.
- I use a custom reg file to disable default shares and restrict null sessions.
- I have a hardware (linksys) and software (outpost) firewall.
So, how does this affect me? :-P

Unless you are the following people, I do not particularly wish to associate with you:

That's it for now. This list will be updated whenever I feel like it.
Well we don't currently use file or print sharing, and we've got hardware firewalls, so we're good. Sp2 I'm kinda regretting updating to, though.
