I'm trying to download some torrent files from a private tracker, I've changed the port numbers and still nothing works. How do I know what port numbers to enter?
It doesn't matter which ports you use, unless the tracker tells you specifically which ones to use. Just pick something. Make sure to forward that port through your firewall and you're good.
How's about them apples?
some trackers aren't too happy with you using "default" ports. Try, oh, 52881-52997
Problem solved, I used a program called Port Peeker and it also included a list called Who Is? It listed many different port numbers for my ISP so I put the low number 7290 and the highest 17000. No more rejected downloads :blah
yikes... that's quite a range. I'd reccomend you use a *much* smaller range. many clients require one port per torrent at any given time, and some only require one period. for example, azureus only requires one.
If security is a concern to you at all, you might want to use azureus or somthing similar, then get a good firewall.
