DC Hub - Getting It Up And Going

I'm trying to get my DC hub up and running with v1.0 from the neo-modus site. I use to do this a long time ago, and alls I would do is open up the DC Hub program (Direct Connect Hub) Enter my IP address, enter the name and description and click Serving.

Then I would go to DC and in the connection address bar enter my IP address and that's it. It would connect. But it doesn't do that anymore and I don't know why. I have Mcafee firewall and have allowed access to both DC and DC Hub.

I haven't done this for a while, starting my own hub, so can you help me out. Am I missing something?

When I go and enter my IP address in DC to connect to it, it will just sit there for a second or two then just say Disconnected from hub.

If you don’t know how to set it up, perhaps you shouldn’t be trying. Running a DC hub carries a tremendous responsibility, not to mention legal liability. If people are trading copyrighted material on your network, you will be held responsible.

Not if its a private DC hub. Such as the secluded zeropaid hub where you have to wipe other peoples asses to get in.

a dynamic IP client from www.no-ip.com and a free domain name is a good start (no-ip free)

then, instead of an IP, you put powerman57.no-ip.com (or whatever you pick) as the hub address in the hub and client (and run the no-ip client) it simplifies things a lot

i also suggest choosing a nonstandard random port (4778 for instance), as some ISPs already throttle 411-418 (the standard dc ports)

    Thanks notbob.

Oh and by the way, it is going to be a private hub. Basically my cuz's want to download music off of me and their all scared to get it from Piolet or whatever. So I told them that we can set up a hub and they can download files from me. Of course they'll only be download legal backups of thier CDs!

so I created an account with no-ip and I logged in and clicked add. Alls I have to do is add powerman572 to the no-ip.com and my IP was already in the box, then click Add. Said it takes about 5 min.

Then on the hub connect, I put listening port 4778 and the IP I put powerman572.no-ip.com and clicked start serving.

Go to DC and enter powerman572.no-ip.com:4778 into the connect box and it should work? If this is it then I believe I'm set to go... however it's been longer than 5 minutes so I'm guessing it takes a bit longer than what they say.

in dc++ (client) make a favorite address--click the yellow star on top, click "new", then put the user, pass, and address in the slots provided

the no-ip client (should see a no ip logo in taskbar) will have a smiley face, a checkbox, and your no-ip address(es) check the box (of uncheck and recheck) the one you want to update--the face should be happy looking if the process worked
