Exclamation Help me with Windows missing c_1252.nls file

    Hi,

My windows installation is refusing to boot because it is missing a file c_1252.nls.

I have located the file on this computer and was wondering how I could transfer it to my other machines harddrive and thus repair the problem.

I have the file on CD-r but do not know how I can copy it to my harddrive without logging on to windows (which I cant do bacause it wont boot)

Any ideas, I think replace c_1252.nls will fix the problem, just need to know how!

If you can get to a dos environment you should be able to copy it to where it needs to go. Either put it on floppy or cd-r(if supported). Boot to DOS prompt and copy from the floppy or cd-r to the directory where the file should be located. Either that or you could try to do a repair of your OS with a rescue disk or the original CD. Here is a site that might help....remember when in doubt use GOOGLE!!!!

    Thanks for the reply.

Sorry I really should have checked google first.

I am trying to fix using the steps provided in the link and will be sure to post if it worked,

By the way, don't suppose anyone knows why the hell this would have happened?

Well I tried doing the steps outlined here http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;830088
    But it never worked

    when I typed

    ren c_1252.nls c_1252.old
    expand d:\i386\c_1252.nl_ c:\windows\system32
I got the error "The system cannot find the file or directory specified"

I would suggest you try doing it again and making sure that you follow each step perfectly. If it still does not work and you could somehow run SP1 I would try to re-install it and see if that might work. If not possible I would try what they suggest later in that same article which links to this site:

Here is a link to a page for downloading the file that you are missing from a boot disk web-site:

If it were me in this situation, i'd re-install the OS. and if that does not work, its most likely to be a hradware problem.
