i downloaded a movie that had a rar. ext. so i found out that i had to download winrar, so now i have winrar but when i try to extract the files to a folder i get this error message. "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged". so i thought maby it was damaged so i downloaded another movie but i had the same poblem. this is what i know about winrar. I need to open the archive file which is rar,r00 or r01,(it trys to open the rar one so i figure its that one). there are 2 parts of the movie split into 2 folders, so there are 2 main archive files, and im not sure but just to try i put both archive files in the same folder but still got the same error message, might it just be both movies are damaged and should try to download another movie to try or is there something that i am missing. plz help im lost and it takes to long to redownload the whole movie, ther like 1.3 gig
have you got all the .rar/.r00 files (of 1 part of it) in the same folder? (ie not inside another rar file or something - if so, extract them to a folder)
Opening any of these files should then open winrar, with (im guessing here) a bin and a cue file?
Select the files in winrar and drag them out into another folder (or the same one if you must) and it should extract properly... if this is how you did it and you still get this error... sounds odd for two files in a row to be corrupted. are you sure they're fully downloaded/completed and everything?
Yes i have all the rar. r00. files. the moive is split into 2 parts, should i take the rar. file from the second part and put it into the 1st part of the movie... I got it to where i can extract all the files into a folder but when i do it looks exactly the same before i did it. like im back 2 where i started there identacle. when i extract do they turn into mpeg or something because they stay in the winrar format.
I have one question where did you download the movie from?
If you downloaded off of newsgroups you can get a par file to fix the movie from newsgroups.
You can also have winrar test the rar files for you with the test feature and try to recovery the rar set.
I have done this several times and it corrected the file.
There are more ways to fix it. Open up the program winrar then where you see winrars File on the upper left side click on that.
Next click open archive and look for the movie rar set you have and allow it to open the archive, next
you need to click on The tools button from there click repair archive.
Let it process the rar file and it should come up with a recovery file. If this works well then you should be able to extract the file.
If not I would suggest you get ready for the next step which is going to require you to have some patience.
Basically you are going to have to make a new folder on your drive and name the folder backup movie.
Next step I want you to start extracting the movie file, next quickly while winrar is extracting the folder open up that folder and click copy next paste that file while its extracting to the back up folder.
You will get errors but dont cancel the extraction because this is the only way to savage the movie the best way you can.
Next step let the errors continue until the whole file is done.
Now you are going to let the whole file finish, then you are going to have to allow it read only privledges, once you do this I want you to make a copy of the file that you just back up to a second folder name this folder back up copy two.
what your going to do now is look for virtual dub *you probably have to download it*. you are going to allow virtual dub fix the movie for you, using direct stream copy mode*. You might miss a few minutes of the movie but you are going to savage it, unless of course you wanna go download said file somewhere else.
hmm
anyways after you get as far as backing it up post back and I will post more instructions.
*this is what I have done to savage many different corrupted rar files in the past* just something I did when I was bored and needed to keep busy*
peace
After you process the file and have backed it up for a second time, and if the file is in the .avi format you can get this tool to fix the file without using virtual dub. Its straight forward. Note you must have to back up files because with div fix the program will directly work with the second back up file and will make changes to fix it. *that is why its good to have two files backed up* just in case the file doesnt work you can use your back up file. *
