Broadband Speed issues

I upgraded my broadband from 750k to 1.5mb line. I put the new line through a few speed test and it is no where near performing how it should be. Basically i called the service provider blueyonder in this case.

Their tech guys rambled on did remote diagnostics and said my modem was performing at the correct level and there was a problem with my pc. I was advised to remove all spy ware which i did with ad-aware. But still problems were evident. Again i contact the tech support claiming that after looking at my netstat -a results see attached file . There were still processes slowing down the connection at my end. They advised regedit and dll redundant checks all of which are a bit over my head. Is it possible things on my pc are slowing things down that much im on the verge of a total format if i can get hold of windows.

take a look at my netstat report and see what you thing.

try upgrading your network drivers, i had a problem with that once

im not on a network its a usb cable modem.

When i upgraded my dsl line from 1.5 megs to 3.megs.. They said it will take five days for me to notice the speed or to start operating at that speed. did you go to dslreports.com and do the speed test? also , what processor and ram you have? I got 512 and it runs smooth.

Am i right in saying your ISP is NTL or Blueyonder?

Well try using ethernet to connect your modem instead of usb. The connector should be included with the modem.

Do you connect through a stand-alone modem or through a set-top-box? If you're running through an STB, is it a Pace model?

As broadwayrock said, connect via Ethernet if you can. USB should theroetically top out somewhere around 1.5Mbps, although in reality it's slower than that. I wouldn't trust BY (or NTL) tech support to be much cop unless there's something actually wrong with the modem.

Its a motorolla cable modem on blueyonder. How can i connect it by ethernet without a networking card ? also a guy came to install it with the tv and didnt leave any box or extra cables.

You can't connect ethernet without a networking card. Windows reserves a certain amount of bandwidth.

Increase BROADBAND

make sure your logged on as actually "Administrator". do not log on with any account that just has administrator privileges.

start - run - type gpedit.msc
expand the "local computer policy" branch
expand the "administrative templates" branch
expand the "network branch"
Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window
in right window double click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting
on setting tab check the "enabled" item
where it says "Bandwidth limit %" change it to read 0

Effect is immediate on some systems, some need to re-boot. This is more of a "counter what XP does" thing.

I realse that i cant connect to the net without a ethernet card, i wasnt aware that usb couldnt handle 1.5mb speed is that correct ? Basically im getting reported bandwidth of 718 less than half what it should be. There has to be some real problem somewhere down the line.
