What about commercial chart music? I admit I don't like the idea that much since the page is club music orientated but I gave Chippy a try!

DJ Chippy is more into Italo dance and is playing four nights a week at Sinners ‘n Heaven and two nights a week as a guest DJ at La Grotta, plus four shows a week on Fantasy Radio.

"So what's more important: entertaining the people with obvious commercial stuff or attracting people with new music," I ask at first since this is a question that deals exactly with the underground vs commercial music…

And Chippy answers: Nowadays it's better to try to do both but when it comes to new stuff, you have to be careful about choice of music.

Mauro: What are your plans for the near future?

Chippy: Gaining more experience at the local clubs scene in order to be more professional in this business. Would love to have the opportunity to play in clubs outside the Maltese Islands such as Italy.

Mauro: Who are your favourite DJs, producers and singers?

Chippy: This is a very difficult question for me as a music lover but as a DJ, I would choose DJ Ruby for his creative mixing. As a producer I admire Gigi D'Agostino from Italy and a singer definitely Jes of Motorcycle because of the fact that she is one of my best friends from the United States.

Mauro: What is your opinion about the party scene in Malta?

Chippy: As for the Maltese and Gozitan clubbers…..I simply love them…they really know how to party in every event! When it comes to promoters, with all due respect, I hate the fact that a DJ has to be either of some kind of popularity or selling tickets for their events to be able to DJing at their parties.

Mauro: Do you prefer turntables or CD players? Why?

Chippy: For a large selection of music I would rather use CD players but when it comes to feeling I use turntables.

Mauro: Six years of experience in DJing have made you mature in what sense?

Chippy: I matured a lot….I gained experience in recognizing the type of clubbers and choosing the right stuff to play and keep them entertained.

I also learned how to deliver my message through the microphone and last but not least, I am capable of dealing with managers and bosses.

Please don't hesitate to send your feedback and comments on [email protected]

Chippy would like to thank everyone who helped and supported him throughout these last 6 years of DJing. Thanks to the trust and support of DJ Rob Dowling and DJ Mykill and thanks also to DJ Charlo and Sander Lautier. For more information log on to www.djchippy.cjb.net
