Manhunt game withdrawn by stores

A number of high street retailers have taken the violent computer game Manhunt off their shelves.
The move comes after the parents of a schoolboy murdered by a friend blamed the game for their son's death.

Warren Leblanc, 17, of Braunstone Frith, Leicester, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to the murder of 14-year-old Stefan Pakeerah in February 2004.

Stefan's parent's claimed Leblanc had been obsessed by the game but standards bodies have rejected the link.

Yes the 17 year old killed the 14 year old kid, did you know they played that game together? The parents of the 14 year old blame the game manhunt for their childs death.
The game has an 18 rateing in the uk, which means neither kid should be able to gain acess. But you and i both know that too many parents dont care about age ratings on games. My brother has a ten year old, doesnt bat an eye if he play`s gta vice city
another 14 year old nephew of mine kept asking me if he could lend my copy of GTA3,
i refused and told him why, i think my other brother bought him that game too.

Is it the violence in games that perpitrate`s this? In japan they have the highest level of violence in their media (games/comics/films) and one of the lowest levels for violent crime per capita.

Could the reason be fast food? a steady diet of highly processed food is very unhealthy
and phycologicaly damaging, isnt there a study currently running that is looking into this?

Edit: have you played this game? i have had a look at it and it is very violent, there is no denying that. I think rockstar (the publisher)are trying to push the envelope of what is accepable and what isnt.

Now the game has been withdrawn from most highstreet shops. No dought this notoriety will give it credability with some children.

yeah the parents want Doom 3, The Suffering, Manhunt, Unreal tournament the GTA games and some others banned in this country, i don't believe Manhunt caused they guy to kill the other guy. It's not being accepted that the guy is messed up in the head. i hear Manhunt has been purchaced 100,000 times, so does that mean 100,000 people are going to go around and kill other people.

This is so stupid.. You seen the TV in the UK?? People having sex, no censorship like america has.. And you can always turn on a John Wayne western to get violence and blood shed. The fact they blame a game, cause the parents are too nice and great parents.. That they could never blame themselfs for the boys death.. no, it's the boy's parents who died saying this, the killers mother died some years ago i read. And it is true, you can see violance on afternoon and morning TV here, 18 rated movies are allowed to come on anytime after 7.30pm or 8pm and 15 rated after 6pm... so what do they expect.

I toally agree with you on that people are always trying to put the blame on anything but themselfs this 17yearold kid hung round in a gang with a flip blade they also said he had been a bully all his life at school this game only came out abit ago so thats bullshit blaming it on that.
this kid was a twat simple as and im glad he was given a life sentance but its a shame we dont have the death sentance over here because this is 1 case i would be happy if it was used.

It has nothing to do with the video game.

Obviously the kid was suffering from severe mental issues and is also an idiot.

If your going to kill someone at least make it worth while, people shoot other
people because they backstab, cheat on spouses, sold you some bad drugs,
get harassed in school, but this is just a matter of "I cant beat him in this video
game so Ill beat him in real life".

I think its probably the way people rub each other the wrong way in our society,
and the way we treat each other like peices of crap.

As for the parents I think they learned a valuable lession, as for the kid, he should
have probably been on some much stronger medication and forced to play outside
a little more :]

If they have done a bit more parenting (maybe talked to the kid his problems) and not used the video game console as a babysitter things might have turned out different. Blaming the media has become popular cop out for a lot of parents thses days.

YOu know, i didnt get that promotion at work, I blame the video game Sims. I think the boss played the game and just acted out the game on to me.. Im in a bad marriage, i think porno is to blame. Making it look so fun and sensual. I got tons of music off the net without paying for it, i blame p2p and the isp for allowing me to do this. Maybe the kid will be a bad parent, since he has witnessed his parents being retarded, uptight assholes who just wouldnt give 15 minutes a day of their lives to his parenting needs.

Ya basically this is another group of parents blamming what isn't the problem, I bet you they never play videogames. Also may be bling religious followers, (blind as in followind without knowing why). Videogames will not cause a regular person who would never kill somone to kill someone. If someone plays videogames adn then kills someone its because they were likely to do so to begin with. The only effect video games can have is as a simulator allowing the person to have a less hard time initiating it.
