    Reuben Lee

    by Mauro Calleja

    Friday, 30 July, 2004

Experimenting with computer software to create techno music is in the style of Reuben Lee. "Sometimes Hard Techno is labelled as repetitive music that doesn't make much sense," he explains. "However sometimes these comments arise from the same people that go mad in a party when suddenly a relatively hard track is played...I still can't understand that. If my live performances changes the idea these people have, then I would be really satisfied, but there's much work to be done" he continues...

Mauro: Who are your favourite DJs, remixers and producers? Why do you consider them as top quality?
Reuben Lee: I consider my favourite DJ and remixer to be Dave Clarke; incredible mixing skills - he's the best in the world in my opinion and his remixes are also very good. As producer I prefer Chris Liebing since 6 years ago his tracks ignited my passion for techno. I can still remember
myself as a small kid listening to "time for laura" and "time for olivia", and he's still kicking...

What's more important mixing skills or choice of music in a set?
Reuben Lee: Being a producer regarding the mixing vs selection idea, I think the secret is a mixture of both, but superior mixing skills make a set sound much nicer.

How do you define your style of music?
    Reuben Lee: One word, hard.

Is DJing here in Malta is all about selling tickets and promoting other promoter's event?
Reuben Lee: Maybe sometimes it's this sad truth, but I don't think we can make a general rule out if this statement. I am sure that people with talent will get noticed somehow.

How do you consider the local party scene to be after all?
Reuben Lee: I think the local party scene is very healthy but sometimes the promoters don't promote their events well enough.

What are your plans for the future? Any bookings?
Reuben Lee: Keep working on my tracks, and maybe find a record label. I'll be playing live end of October in an event hosted by Hysteric Maniacs which will be featuring Lars Klein.

Top 5 favourite tracks of all times...
Reuben Lee: Surgeon - basictonal remake - intro version 2; Joey beltram - floaters; Johannes heil - die offenbarung; Cari lekebusch -- attitydsknackaren; The high tech child - tribal storm (adam beyer remix)
