    I'm in trouble!!!!

I just got the dreaded email from my ISP today. Apparently, I was sharing some copyrighted material (movies). I'm using emule and have been connecting to both ed2k and kad. I got nailed on ed2k. I quit sharing the files in question and have switched to kad only. How safe do you recon I am?

I am sure you are at basically the exact same risk level. I am certain that kad has nothing to prevent RIAA from finding you.

Movies are fine if you don't have anal isp, mine hasn't complained yet, although I also live in canada.

The infraction was on ed2k, though. That's where they're watching me. If I only use kad, which I've done until recently, it would stand to reason that they may not be watching for me there. Is this thinking flawed? BTW, I'd already moved most of the files in question before I got the email. The others were part files and I've moved them and anything else that might be questionable for now. Also, I'm a mighty big cable customer. They don't want to loose me and I have other options.

It dosent matter if you have an anal isp. They will send out the letters to the companies, and the companies will have to give out a letter of warning and fall through on it. They give the isp number, time, the file that was found, what program was running. And they check their log books saying, yeah that user was connected to so and so at that time, and its that number. and send the warning out. Regardless, if you do it again and they get another letter.. You could lose your service.

Or a razor blade, no mask. You wouldnt even need to talk to people up front. That'd prolly be the same risk as p2p. :-P

You guys talk like P2P is stealing or something. I don't need a gun or a razor to get me wares, I just need to pay my high ass ISP bill every month. Broadband is useless except to get free stuff and play games. If ISPs mess with people too much they'll lose all their clients.

Yes your thinking is flawed. You are exactly as visible using kad as using ed2k servers. The servers refer clients to other clients who hold files. With kad clients refer other clients to the clients holding the desired files. The same people and the same files and the same activities are equally visible. Otherwise it wouldn't work would it!
And if you are a home user you are not "a mighty big cable customer". Which ISP could actually give a shit about your 30 bucks a month? If the choice is between ending your service or paying the their legal dept to write a letter to a copyright holder they will cut you before you can blink. OK if you're the CEO of Exxon I'm wrong but probably you're not a bigshot and you are paranoid, no one is watching you, they're watching files being copied. Basically they don't give a shit who you are so long as you stop copying their copyrighted works.
"You have already proven what you are...
a troll chucking flaming spam out..".....who me?

Try $250 bucks a month. I've got a HDTV/DVR hookup, plus 4 other TV connections, two phone lines, and the internet. I get two calls a week from their competition. I instantly deleted the files in question. They were only partial files I was trying to d/l. Most everything copyrighted that I was trying to d/l is available to me on Showtime or HBO or the several other premium channels I subscribe to. I can copy them with my DVR, but I can only view them on one TV. I often purchase DVDs, but I have issues with Blockbuster who have managed to run all the local rental stores out of business.

I'm not paranoid, I just don't want to go thru the trouble of switching ( or modifying my behavior) ISPs. To rephrase my question, has anyone else been contacted about sharing on ED2K? Has anyone been contacted about sharing on KAD?
