Unhappy Feds Target Fan Website With Patroit Act!

Of those who didn't see how the Patroit Act can affect his/her life, well here's a perfect case where the Patroit Act is abused.

Patriot Act Used to Enforce Copyright Law?

This is just crazy. How does a suspected infringement of copyright law be considered a terrorist act?

Pretty soon the entertainment industry is going to control the U.S. When you get low enough to elect actors & singers to government positions you know there is a serious problem. And when copyright infringement takes precedence over murdering, raping etc., It's just plain social decay.

It would appear the persons/entities in control in the U.S. don't care much for their citizens, only about their money....But is this really news to anyone?

No.. greed is what runs this country.. from the very beginning.. starting with "We don't need England and their taxes." But, since we abolished their taxes, we've enacted thousands of different tax policies of our own. Personally, as an American, not speaking in any terms of being a traitor, I love what this country once WAS, but think that we could still be a part of the UK and be quite successful.
My current setup stats (like anyone cares...):

    ASUS A8N32-SLI Motherboard
    AMD 4400+ Dual-Core CPU
    Windows Vista (Ultimate 32bit)
2 GB (2x1GB) Corsair XMS RAM
2x250 GB (in RAID 0) HDDs
EVGA GeForce 7950 GTX 512 MB
    Creative X-FI Fatal1ty XtremeGamer

    Also sporting a black MacBook
    Revision/Release 1
    Upgraded to 2GB RAM.

He was openly hosting all the SG episodes for download on his site. That is what got him in trouble in the first place.
It's not what you say but how you get your point across!

I think the point is that an act which was ostensibly to be used for rooting out terrorists is actually being used to enforce copyright laws.

Slashdot only presents a very abridged version of the original article. Some of the details on the original are pretty shocking.

"Adam later received a copy of the affidavit filed in support of the search warrant, and was shocked to discover that this document, prepared by the FBI, contained significant amounts of erroneous and misleading information. For example, two social security numbers were listed for Adam, one of which is not his. References were made to a cease and desist letter sent by the MPAA to an email address that did not exist. His online friendship with other Stargate fans across the globe was portrayed as an international conspiracy against the MPAA."

"When they seized Adam's computer equipment, he was given written documentation stating that it would be returned within 60 days. The equipment that they did return did not arrive until more than 8 months later, and only then after much prodding from his lawyer. Much of it was damaged beyond repair - one laptop had a shattered LCD screen, an empty tape backup drive was ripped apart for no apparent reason, his fiancee's iBook was badly damaged when it was pried apart with a screwdriver."

And the American people are quite happy to put up with this Stalinist bullshit?

Why is there no coverage in the mainstream media?

the patriot act was passed to help in the war on terrorism but fails to define exactly what a terrorist is. Therefore any misdemenor can be defined as a terrorist act under the patriot act.

Hey you want british rule now! and you never called! What makes you think we want america back?

I feel that, these news sources will show the extremeist case of patriot act and others to try to save their filesharing heathen ass... Lets not mention that some cases have gone on and have found infringed work, child porn, and lots of bootlegging. We dont want the patriot act, but well show some innocent people who do get violated, to make our case.

I don't care what you (not you personally - in general) download, theres no reason for what was done to this guy, other then greed. Downloading 101010101010101 only harms people who want money....and you can't take it with you so whats the point?

That's a job for copyright infringement organizations and in the case of child porn the FBI.

But the Patriot Act is a tool to fight Terrorists not American citizens, even if they are breaking copyright law. It's like using an M1 Abrams to stop highway speeding, that kind of weapon shouldn't be used on citizens. The Bill of Rights says I'm safe (or should be) from illegal search and seizure.

Unfortunately this isn't the first time the Patriot act has been used against someone who isn't a terrorist.
