I got DSL hooked up today and I can't connect to the Piolet network. KazaA connects just fine, but I hardly use KazaA anymore.
I open Piolet and it just says it's connecting forever. I don't have any firewalls enabled. The modem is plugged into my router. Then a cord is coming out of the router and into my PC to bring the computer internet. So maybe I have to do something to the router?
I'm not quite sure, so if I could get some help. My router is a Linksys 802.11b
Go into the router settings. You need to enable port forwarding. Look in the Piolet settings for the exact port. And if it still doesnt work after that, its just normal. Piolet doesnt work for a lot of people. Remember - a router IS a firewall.
My current setup stats (like anyone cares...):
ASUS A8N32-SLI Motherboard
AMD 4400+ Dual-Core CPU
Windows Vista (Ultimate 32bit)
2 GB (2x1GB) Corsair XMS RAM
2x250 GB (in RAID 0) HDDs
EVGA GeForce 7950 GTX 512 MB
Creative X-FI Fatal1ty XtremeGamer
Also sporting a black MacBook
Revision/Release 1
Upgraded to 2GB RAM.
Okay, well I typed in 192.168.0.1 into my browser and I acutally got my ActionTec modem setup. But there is a port forwarding feature, should I try this or does it have to be my routers settings? And what ports do I forward?
i suppose you could do it in the modem, but more conventionally it's been done in the router settings.
to find out which port you need to forward, you need to figure out which port piolet is listening on. this is usually visible in the options somewhere.
