Best Azureus configuration

What are some of the best configuration/settings in terms of total efficiency for the community. I imagine it will be different for different types of connections. So if we can get a range of settings for everything from "gasp" dial-up to "T" connections. I think it would be helpful to some people. Me absolutely. All the FAQ's talk about NAT's and such nothing speaks of what settings work best.

Well the main thing you need to adjust is your upload setting. It's definately better for the community, as well as yourself, to set your upload rating at as high as possible without flooding your connection. This goes for 56k as well as T3'ers.

I've heard you should set the upload to around 85% of your total outgoing bandwidth. If you set it to 100%, your connection will flood and your download speed will dramatically decrease.

Set the UL to ~80% max, and perhaps up the default max ULs per torrent by a few. After that, basically just share away.

In terms of DL, really depends on your connection. Even for broadband, I find that connecting to a max of 100 peers is a bit much, especially if/when you have several torrents downloading. I'm still fiddling, but mine is set to... 70? right now, I think.

I wouldn't suggest having any more than 1 or 2 DLs at a time, unless you have a decent amount of UL bandwidth.

I guess what I am looking for is a complete run down from start to finish. What are the best settings for downloading and uploading. i.e. everything listed in the transfer section of configuration from start to finish. I am getting DL on average of 5kbps and UL around 3kbps. Everything lists green so I do not have a NAT problem and I am on a broadband connection but still getting those crap speeds so I figure it is something in my configuration. The first few days of using Azureus I was getting into the 50,60, and 70 and I was very satisfied with that. But now I am getting these poor speeds. So any info/ help would be great.

Well if you were getting good speeds, and you havent changed anything, yet you now get slow downloads, its probably still okay. You may have just been getting ahold of some bad torrents. Keep trying different ones, and you should find your download speeds increasing. DainBramaged brought up some good points. Also know that there is no need to limit your download speed (just incase you didnt know that) and limit how many torrents you use at a given time.

Yeh, it seems in these honest bt proggs, you have to adjust your upload to suit your download needs. In shareaza, when u put your upload lower, or at max 0.01, your dl speed goes faster.

#1 Not to identify myself as an idiot but how does one go about determining what your actual download and upload bandwidth is?
#2 I did make some changes to my configuration and removed this machine from the network , one of these two changes killed my download and upload speeds. Since removing from the router should not affect it in a negative way I can only assume I did something wrong with the config changes. I do not know what I did exactly nor do I see a way of resetting to the defaults.
#3 Again I took this machine off of the network and have it connected straight to the cable modem. As I plan on using this machine for this purpose only 24 hours a day 7 days a week. So I do not have router issues. Yet my download / upload speeds are weak.
