Well I knew this was coming. I spent very little time at any online community growing up. It's not just because I have better things to do, which I do most of the time, but because I knew that it would get to me when everyone started making stupid posts and there were people trolling around.
I didn't expect Zeropaid to be different, especially with so many members. I was here from the beginning, but it took me until December of 2002 to sign up for an account. It then took me like 4 or 5 months before I even posted one thing, with random posts until just recently.
Having the summer off from my very hard college and knowing I sleep like 5 or 6 hours at the most every night, I figured what the hell. I will go to Zeropaid and attempt to help people. Notice I said help and not interact. I have a lot of trouble interacting with people I don't know and I am one of those people who can't ever stand to chat. I came to spread my knowledge, which may sometimes be wrong, but it is backed with many years of experience either way.
Initially, all was well. I made some friends through pms and email, even though I seriously never came here with the intention of talking to people outside of a post here and there to be nice and see if I could help someone. I even hit Mike up for some help when I couldn't get this linux 5 way boot down, which is unusual for me because I never need to seek help and if I did I rarely ever ask. I just figure it out eventually, but Mike was really nice about it and was very helpful.
I didn't post for myself, I posted to make sure that people could enjoy their internet experience a little more. It's the same feeling I get when I see my Mother enjoying herself after I have taught her something with her computer.
I am not the smartest guy and I do suffer from severe ADD and other learning disorders that make me not very smart most of the time and make me prone to mistakes and frustration, but I try to overcome it with an ability that I have to just talk to people without talking down on them. You can throw someone new to the internet at me and I can talk on their level unintentionally. It just comes natural to me to help people on their level and build them up to whatever level I can get them to.
Anyway I find myself frustrated easily due to the fact that I have these mind diseases and that I have a stressful college life at a very hard school. I have the tendency to party first and pay for the bad grades later.
Anyway there are so many people who want to push me to the point of bitter frustration where I snap back. You've got your people who post crap on the forums non stop, you have your fighting kids who swear back and forth at each other, your pointless posters who shouldn't be allowed to respond, your noob attackers who go off on anyone new who comes here, your fanboy, your people who copy what someone before them says and get the credit for it, and so forth...
It wants to push me over the edge because when I see Zeropaid, I see the first site that all new file sharers go to and they will continue to do so. Whether it be the legend of it all or just the fact that none of the other forums hold up for help, I don't know what it is. If you go to Slyck, you get a great news site and the forums are more pushed towards just being a place to discuss new releases and if you go to Unite The Cows you have a well built community that is more into talking about all different kinds of stuff rather than having people sign up and seek help. Zeropaid all day long is just full of people looking for knowledge and they get scared off by posts that have nothing to do with it all, by people who attack them for asking questions, by people who set bad examples with immaturity, and just overall by a bad atmosphere for them to want to be in.
I thought I could make a difference by devoting the great majority of my posts to trying to keep a steady crowd coming. With almost 200,000 members and like only 20 on at the same time, it seems like it needs a little tweaking.
Anyway I kept saying to myself that I can deal with these people who in my opinion wreck a community that should be centered around getting new members, holding new members, and discussion of file sharing related topics. This is, in case you didn't notice, a file sharing portal.
Some will say that what I just put down is what adds flavor to the community. I disagree and not just because I think it has gone way too far. I really feel that it is wrecking the point of the community and in a way it is being greedy since it seems far more appealing to long time members, as compared to new signups.
I said to myself that though I can deal with these people, I can't deal again with getting trolled. I have tried with past forums, but I always get trolled by someone. I can't always hold back my thoughts, although I try, but when I do say anything at all, it tends to turn around on me and get every little kid and their brother after me. I just don't want it to get to this.
I gave it my one shot. I don't owe the community anything and it doesn't owe me anything either. This isn't a goodbye thread, a call to win me back thread, or anything like that. It is a simple I am walking away from forums thread. I could have gone on for years at a pace of helping many people a day. I really do enjoy it and after it took me that long to force myself into doing it, I really felt like I was progressing as a helper and as a person.
Now I must walk. There is no need to respond to this or anything. I am not going to log back in for this or pms, I am simply walking away from forums for good. Maybe I won't be able to do what I love best and that is to help people, but my nerves will be a whole lot less shot after I walk from this.
So I guess goodbye and if you want to make things easier and ban me, then I'm not going to argue. I won't be logging in anymore to any of the 6 forums that I am registered at and read daily at the sites that you all know, so there is no need to leave a pm there either. If you really have something to say, which I can't imagine why, my email is [email protected] and I do check that often.
Just for one last word, I hope that the community betters itself eventually because it was what Zeropaid seems meant to do. You probably ask why I seem to think I know what it was meant to do. Well I don't, I just know that it's the first site that comes up for new file sharers and the first site that they register at. Perhaps it's time to start playing off from that and making it the community that they are looking for. As much as I can hate Neowin, look at the return traffic that they get. They know that people find their site first and they know that they can play off from this and help them. The end result is a huge community that has people posting all throughout the day and night. You can't even keep up there.
So goodbye and best of luck in P2P endeavors. I hope I spelled everything right and I'm not even smart enough with typing to hope that I used proper grammar. I am sure someone will point it all out though. I tried my best... Goodbye.
Hate to see you leave allie. But, I must say that you do put out some very good points, and I agree with you on just about all of them.

"Ah... Just doing what I enjoy. I'm glad to see people are picking up on stuff, then repeating it when new people come around asking questions. For what it counts, I saw your if you can't help don't respond sticky that you posted up. It is too bad that no one ever listens to it. You get one helpful post for every 10 this is better, you are an idiot, or I am just going to repeat what the guy above me said and get full credit for it posts."
wow how helpful it is to describe your helpfulness
"Nice try Shawners, but pre-rave... Rave started in the late 80s and was brought big by Liam Howlett of Prodigy. I love Depeche Mode though. :)"
oh you mean when you were in diapers? shawners is a lot older than you are, and might have a clue about things he experienced first hand
"I would appreciate you not trolling me Miniver. The marypoppins thing, though funny to you is not exactly something I need. You are just upset because I told you to stop wrecking threads with posts that were not needed. You have had it out for me since you posted your little rediffmail and I decided to point out the fact that it was not a good service, which upset you and you argued it out until I decided to post a review that backed me up 100% by a good site. After that you were not heard from again in that thread and you seem to pop up in all of my threads now with a smart remark or a repeat of what I said, just in a slightly different wording. I have a big pet peeve for posters like you who have no original thoughts, simply repeats of what they read online or rewordings of what was posted before them."
i'm sure the devil forced you to keep arguing with him ad infinitum
"Here is a little fanboying that I hope will educate some of you. With all the complaints about speed from bittorrent, I figured I would share my favorite site. http://www.torrentbits.org
Basically it's a private community of bittorrent users. You have to sign up and then confirm through email. After that you have to change it to a port that they find acceptable (none of the standard ports will work) and you have to follow some other rules when editing out your profile. Then it will register your ip address that is logged in (and will do so each time you login in case it is dynamic).. After this you can begin to browse their collection of files and their forums."
my lesson in the obvious is completed for today--really? that's how a forum works? i'd have never guessed since i'm posting on one now.
here's a news flash--maybe people don't need to be educated by you, and don't care what you think, and when that harsh reality set in, you grabbed your bat and went home
all i can say is awwwwwwwwwwwwww...
Who has been trolling allie to make him feel this way?
Hard as ever and here to make you people believe...as long as there is one person to hold hope and dream...A GOD...will never die!
poor allie...blah blah...
jk
Thanks for the Gmail ACCT, Loveya for it. Sorry for any personal trespasses against you.
just one thing. If you SAY goodbye, DON't COME BACK. No offense, nothing personal. I'll miss ya.
ciao
After reading that, I say, Big whoop. You can't always agree with everyone. All you can do is state your opinion and take the shit that comes along with that. I've seen worse - - -

I even wanted to troll him after reading his farewell address but am resisting the urge to do so.

Sorry to see you go alliercollins. I know you've tried to help a lot of people in many different areas. I know I don't post much but I've read many posts you've participated in and I'm sure a lot of people will miss your help. However, ,if helping people is giving you as much stress as it would appear to to make you quit helping, screw it, it's not worth it. Good luck in future endeavers and hopefully you'll check in from time to time to say HI
just wanted to say alliercollins isn't a bad guy...just a little high strung maybe? Get some rest..eat something and maybe tomorrow things will look better to you.

He thinks it's bad now (laughs)
Take DM's advice, get some rest, you will get over what upset you. Spending a lot of time at any specific online community has a way of getting to people at times, just take a breather.
