Here is a little fanboying that I hope will educate some of you. With all the complaints about speed from bittorrent, I figured I would share my favorite site. http://www.torrentbits.org
Basically it's a private community of bittorrent users. You have to sign up and then confirm through email. After that you have to change it to a port that they find acceptable (none of the standard ports will work) and you have to follow some other rules when editing out your profile. Then it will register your ip address that is logged in (and will do so each time you login in case it is dynamic).. After this you can begin to browse their collection of files and their forums.
The files available are the best of the best in new stuff (movies, music, games, applications, etc...). You can download them and with the requirements to get a 1:1 share ratio (you get incentives for uploading, like better access and stuff after a certain amount of gigs and weeks). They get every new release right off and you may notice other sites stealing their stuff. If you have tried to download a movie off suprnova and it connects to tons of seeds, but none download, it's probably from this site and you need an account.
They are not strict. Just follow the rules. They only accept 100,000 applications and they prune them every week or so. If you are inactive or break the rules you will be removed from the community so someone else can have your spot.
With this you get new releases in a friendly environment. The speed is outstanding since everyone is uploading. You may find files with 200 seeds and only 2 or so leechers. It's like a private suprnova with only new releases and no one shutting off the upload after they finish the download.
So yeah, if you get a chance check it out and I hope anyone who wants and account gets one.
Torrentbits kicks ass. There's nothing like getting on a torrent right when it is posted before all the leechers are able to get on it 48 hours later.
I should add some stuff just so people know ahead of time.
First off, to go along with what Miniver said. There is leecher control. From the faq on the site:
Why do I get a "Not authorized (xx h) - READ THE FAQ!" error?
From the time that each new torrent is uploaded to the tracker, there is a period of time that some users must wait before they can download it.
This delay in downloading will only affect users with a low ratio, and users with low upload amounts.
Ratio below
0.50
and/or upload below
5.0GB
delay of
48h
Ratio below
0.65
and/or upload below
6.5GB

and/or upload below
8.0GB
delay of

Ratio below
0.95
and/or upload below
9.5GB

"And/or" means any or both. Your delay will be the largest one for which you meet at least one condition.
This applies to new users as well, so opening a new account will not help. Note also that this works at tracker level, you will be able to grab the .torrent file itself at any time.
Also...
-It has php level ip blocking from peerguardian's database.
-It runs off from the old bytemonsoon code with many improvements. It's comment system is very nice and the people will tell you all about the file if you ask.
from the site:
"Our tracker runs an heavily modified version of the old ByteMonsoon code, that we used to make available to the general public under the GPL. Sites with a superficial similarity may simply be other evolutions of ByteMonsoon, blatant clones definitely run on our code base or spin-offs."
-Bad files are automatically removed. If it isn'tt legit, it's gone.
-Only certain people can upload torrents and they have to be given permission ahead of time...
This is the criteria:
What criteria must I meet before I can join the Uploader team?
You must be able to provide releases that:
• include a proper NFO,
• are genuine scene releases. If it's not on NFOrce or SweDupe then forget it!
• are not older than seven (7) days,
• have all files in original format (usually 14.3 MB RARs),
• you'll be able to seed, or make sure are well-seeded, for at least 24 hours.
Also, you should have at least 2MBit upload bandwidth.
funny I just signed up, decided to come here while I wait for my confirmation email, and look what I find :) nice find Allie.

Actually... My old desktop account was gone due to inactivity. I have a few comptuters, each of which gets it's own ip at school. So I have to create an account for each computer that I use bittorrent on. (It allows multiple connections from the same ip in the same account, but not for different ips).
Anyway I just booted it up for the first time since I came back from school and the account was dead, so I put in a new one and started some uploads. It takes a few days to catch up on ratio with so many people uploading.
You should know that Miniver.
Too damn many rules for me.
:blah
Just think about it like this Rainbow... register at the site, confirm the email, change your port (I use 6991), fix your profile on their site, then just upload your share and all will be well.
I'm not a postwhore, I'm a post gutterslut get the facts straight.Originally Posted by alliercollins
It doesn't take that long to catch up on ratio as long as your upstream matches your downstream and you seed popular files.
Considering I reopened my second account a few hours before and I am not downloading anything new, I think my ratio is coming along just fine. I can't find seeds to upload to.Originally Posted by Miniver
At this point, your responses of either I am going to point out what Allie is doing or I am going to try to educate Allie even though I know he knows it are not needed. I opened this thread for the purpose of helping people better their bittorrent experience, not to serve to your stupid responses. I would like to give people the oppurtunity to learn how to get better quality, but they aren't going to do that if they have to fish through all of these responses that have absolutely nothing to do with the point of this thread.
Finding seeds to upload to? Think before you type.Originally Posted by marypoppins

I suppose I'll offer my thoughts on torrentbits as well. I think it's a great concept, but it doesn't really work out that well. The main annoyance for me is that it restricts your downloads to a single ip address (this is necessary to enforce the sharing rules), but why can't they let the user specify his ip address? I browse the web on one computer and download torrents on another. Each machine has its own ip address. Each time I visit torrentbits with the browsing machine all my torrents get rejected on the other machine. There are a few work arounds for this, but they are all bigger hassles than I'd like to deal with.
Second is the content. The rules here are ridiculous. They only have "scene" releases which are less than 30 days old. Even if 1000 people are downloading something it automatically gets deleted after 30 days. They also reject anything that doesn't come from the "scene" which limits them to the most boring mainstream stuff possible. There isn't much other than the latest blockbuster movie and current top-40 music, and there is almost zero non-US content.
The speeds are great, they've done a great job forcing people to share. And I hope this concept is used elsewhere in the future. But for me there's rarely anything there that I want to download, and when there is I have to jump through a few extra hoops to get it to work with my multi-ip setup. I do realize why they have some of the limitations in place, I'm sure they don't have the bandwidth to keep things around for more than 30 days or accept releases from just anyone.... but it still annoys me. On the other hand, a lot of people love it.... so to each his own.
This is a very cool site! Unfortunately it doesn't have XBox torrents :-(
My favourite file sharing programs:
-------------------------------------------------
K-Lite (http://www.warez4u.us)
DC:PRO (http://www.mmisoft.net/forum)
Overnet Lite (http://www.warez4u.us/Clean.Clients.php)
Shareaza (http://www.shareaza.com)
mIRC (http://www.mirc.com)
ABC (http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net)
Xnews (http://xnews.newsguy.com)
Yeah, I wish they had xbox torrents too.
TorrentBits.org is really good, especially for movies but it kinda lacks on new rap/hip-hop albums but other then that you can kinda find anything you need at great speeds (just remember to keep your torrent open!).
