Recently, some new music came into my possession with a compression (lossless) type that I've never heard of before. It's called LPAC. I want to convert this to MP3 as I mostly play my music collection on my MP3 CD player. The only way I can think of is using Winamp's WAV output plugin to make them all into wav files, then encoding them to MP3, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a encoder or conversion program that'd do the job quicker and with less mess. Thanks!

Managed to solve my own problem. There's software bundled into the download called "LPAC Archiver" that will do the decoding to WAV file, then I can just encode as I planned to previously do, now I can just by pass messing with Winamp.

Yea, I've tried foobar before, Winamp gets annoying with high CPU usage at times. I donno, it gives damn good sound quality though. But then again, so does Foobar. I donno, what do you guys think?

Winamp IS part of AOL, which is bad in my eyes... but oh well.

Winamp was made by Justin Frankel, which is good. Foobar was made by the guy who worked under Justin Frankel, which is good... :) Screw AOL, Nullsoft does it's own thing still for the most part.
As I have mentioned before though. With Pawloski (I think that is his name) gone to program Foobar and Frankel gone, they may not be able to keep Winamp on top much longer, no matter how many resources AOL pushes in to back it. Frankel created Winamp and worked through the 2 series. He stepped back and let Pawloski and the other guys work on Winamp 3 and it sucked, so Pawloski left. Then Frankel stepped back in for Winamp 5 and it was cool, but then he left, so there is no one left as of right now who is worthy to take over Winamp.
You can find great plugins for winamp to get them to play high Q and lossless audio. I got one to play 384kbs.
Foobar's GUI is like getting hit with a rock in the shins when you accidentally ran it over with your lawnmower.
There isn't even a volume control in the GUI and all the elitist assholes who inhabit the official forums say one isn't needed; that you can just use the Windows volume control. Even the dev doesn't want to add one.
I mean, the outcry for it was unmistakable, and yet we are left with a piss poor GUI with no volume control. It's nice to be able to control the volume from within the player, so you don't effect the overall system volume (like WinAMP).
It's all about being slim and streamlined, but if functionality suffers, you're becoming obsessive.
You can't triple stamp a double stamp.
I would say that it's more "obsessive" to not use an audio player because of one missing function. Foobar has so many other great functions and options and 3rd party components.
With replaygain enabled, you probably won't need to adjust the volume at all while listening. Just set the volume in the preferences/playback, and leave it there. You can assign keyboard shortcuts to move the volume up, down or mute it. Pretty simple.
The GUI can be adjusted quite easily with a few component changes and configuration. Check out these websites:

Just use what you feel comfortable with... and yes foobar's GUI is ugly...
Yea, foobar is pretty ugly. A wonderful description too Ken, thanks for that, totally made my day. hehe. I know Nullsoft USUALLY does it's own thing, but it's still under AOL, which bothers me somewhat. I'll probably keep using it anyway. And I think that the fact that foobar doesn't have a volume control is a pain in the ass. What if you don't want to have that icon in the corner taking up more room just so you can turn the volume up and down? Bah, that IS rediculous.
