Im using Secondary connection right now since Im behind a zone alarm firewall. Is primary better? Thanx in advance
it depends. Primary allows users with secondary connections to connect to you to get to the network. Sometimes it can be a little cpu intensive with primary, but you get faster search results. Secondary is just the opposite of primary. secondary is still fine though

i have 1mb broadband but when i use the secondary connection i get faster searchs and faster download speeds
both primary and secondary are good but i find that when u use the primary it slows my pc down...
yeah, if you're system can support primary its great you'll get better performance, better search results, but if youre like me and primary is hell, you should use secondary, unless you like pulling hair out.

sorry for the dumb question, but how can I tell if I'm using one or the other?
right when you start up winmx, there's an option on the bottom half of the screen that will tell you which one you have.

you not taking about my TrippyMx servers loading up are you? I ask this cause I'm not at home right now, so I can't really start it up right now
thanx for the reply ppl.
alirio, right when u start winmx (as jabba had said) youll find both Primary and Secondary connection under the Networks>WinMx Peer Network button.
I'm unable to connect using the primary method. Even though i'm not behind a firewall or router.
You can't triple stamp a double stamp.
If youre on a secondary connection are u still able to connect to primary users or is that not possible?
I can still connect to primary users. Actually the problem is for some odd reason, after uninstalling Zone Alarm a few months ago(installed it a few days before), it seems that I am unable to accept ANY incoming TCP and UDP connections. Or at least I believe so. Though i'm not exactly and expert on this.

I just started my WinMx and I don't see anything you talking about man, does it have something to do if I'm still using 2.6?Originally posted by Whoa

The only thing I see on my startup of WinMx, is at the top there is the WinMx Peer Networking Protocol and then I see the OpenNap Protocol High Capacity Network list...
primary and secondary only applies if you use something in the 3.xx series of WinMX. and yeah, you can still connect to a primary user if you use secondary, in fact thats the only way for a secondary to connect, since they latch onto a primary user. Thats why primary users need a lot of speed and memory. If you use secondary and you notice your searches aren't as fast or if you get like 10 results on a search that should get you 100's its because you are connected to a slow primary user.

Well I just got Norton Personal Firewall. Did some configuring, now I connect to WinMX through a Primary connection to the network.

ZoneAlarm Pro has caused big headaches for many who wish to use Primary. One of the major issues is the 100% cpu cycles used when running ZAP with winmx on primary, causing a huge computer latency problem.
Switching to Secondary resolves the issue. However, WinMX is a decentralized service which relies on its Primaries to sustain the network. Without them, WinMX will exist no more at least as far as the Peer Network is concerned. So I have often advised people with this problem to ditch ZAP, go with another firewall if they have to, but do whatever they have to in order to maintain their Primary connection on WinMX.
