    another linux question

    hey again

i thank you guys for your help on my previous question. I got a couple of more. FIrst I am using Fedora Linux and a couple of issues

    1) THe updates never install and keep freezing, exactly how much ram does any linux require, I have about 128 on the celeron processor, is that the reason its freezing up.

    2) A person I know has more screen savers then I do, yet he gave me his cds. I have tried installing every option to get those screen savers. is there a websight that offers screen savers for linux. the ones i have tried were shut down or not responding

    3) and last i read from the fedora websight, and their commands are quite confusing does anyone have a good source where i can learn more commands on linux

thanx for the help i appreciate it

Sorry, I can't help you with the first two (I'm pretty much learning this stuff myself), but for number 3, check out www.linuxquestions.org - you can usually find a bunch of stuff there.

I actually found a SparkChart on Unix at a bookstore by me (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...6639021&itm=94) - it's pretty cool, and for $5, it covers a lot of stuff

if you want to update, don't use the built in updater ([edit, ignore this ] assuming you use FC1)

go to apt.freshrpms.net and install apt.
then, in a terminal, run "apt-get update"
    then "apt-get dist-upgrade"

you may also wish to use yum, but either way don't use the GUI version, i had it lock up and it also uses alot more resources to perform a simple task

[edit] oops, they also have apt and yum for FC2 now, so either way use apt and/or yum (i use both, i run apt then yum since apt is faster for me)

    1) that should be enough ram, and you do have a swap partition right?

    2) don't know much about screen savers in linux...

    3) here's a few basic ones: http://www.justlinux.com/nhf/Command_Reference

    several more guides here: http://www.justlinux.com/nhf/

    and search these forums: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/index.php

lot's of good stuff out there.
