Nuh!! Just can't work it out

Very new to computers and more so Mac which I have now> I try to read the bit torrent websites etc. but it's just going way over my head. I've tried downloading Azerus and can't open it.

Now Is there a book/website that is good for newbies or can someone be so kind as to walk me thru setting up Azerus or Bittorrent or whatever STEP BY STEP and like dumb it down to the lowest level and I mean DUMB.

I downloaded Limewire which was easy, I just downloaded it and opened it. Piece of piss.
But that program is freezing my laptop don't know why? So trashed it. But I would like to try something else.

Anyway, any help here would be greatly appreciated. I have MacOSX 10.2.6

Do you have java installed? I don't know why you wouldn't be able to open Azureus. What happens when you try to open it if it isn't the Java problem?

    Thanks for replying

Okay, After I've downloaded Azureus, and then Azurreus_2.1.0.2_OSX.zip appears on the desktop and then when I doubleclick it a window pops up saying
"There is no default application specified to open the document"Azureus_2.1.0.2_OSX.zip""
    CHOOSE APPLICATION or OK

So as i said very new and at this stage am fumbling my way round.

So now I'm going back to read the advice from alliercollins in a previous thread.
At the moment I'm downloading a file.( I think, gotta read the manualthingy, just to work out what the hells goin' on) but it's going really slow, like 3 days worth. any ideas?

If it's going really slow.. the first point of advice is port forwarding. Macs still connect through routers, so if your behind one, you need to forward ports which the last time I checked I believe are 6881-6889.
My current setup stats (like anyone cares...):

    ASUS A8N32-SLI Motherboard
    AMD 4400+ Dual-Core CPU
    Windows Vista (Ultimate 32bit)
2 GB (2x1GB) Corsair XMS RAM
2x250 GB (in RAID 0) HDDs
EVGA GeForce 7950 GTX 512 MB
    Creative X-FI Fatal1ty XtremeGamer

    Also sporting a black MacBook
    Revision/Release 1
    Upgraded to 2GB RAM.

Okay, I'll tell ya how to fix the situation. Take the macintosh, open a window, perferably a high one, and toss it out, perferably onto something hard, such as concrete. Next, buy an actual computer and try it.

Hehe, Just kidding... kinda, but in all seriousness, I've never heard of a firewall on a macintosh, so I doubt forwarding ports on your mac would be the problem, if you have a router, well, type "192.168.0.1" in your browser address bar and go there. If anything comes up, dig around for port forawarding info. This is just a stab in the dark as I don't know much about the TCP/IP system setup on a macintosh, only that it's similar (loosly at least) to a windows box, and this is how mine works. As for java, just do a search on google for "Macintosh Java" or go to the Azereus webapage and look at your options there. It's always best to read the webpage of the software you want. Also, make sure you looked at all the other links the guys above me posted, I'm sure they're smarter than me.

As for "don't Post file names" we don't want anything illegal on this board. If you post filenames, it could draw attention to what you're trying to download. Or something like that, I just suggest you leave out filenames and if you post a screenshot, blur the names. It's just a legality issue.
    How's about them apples?

Ok I tried typing that number into broswer but nothing happened.
I understand now how everything works courtesy of the bittorrent explanation by maliciious intent? in the bittorent section but I'm still getting 2kb/s download speeds in Azereus.

I've done the porting number side of things thru System Preferences but could someone please walk me thru it all.

Or I was in Borders(Bookshop) the other day, I sthe a book I can buy for macs relating to all this type of stuff

    Cheers Once again
