    Don't install OVERNET

WARNING: Don't you install this crap! So many spyware and viruses it contains! I never seen it before. My ISP almost banned me because the viruses activated and spread activity over the Internet. You can't select whether to install the spyware or not. You may uncheck it, but it will be installed incl. the lausy IE button bar. Look here how professional it is:

    11.12.03: Incompatibilities
There are a few pieces of software that we know about that will cause crashes if run with Overnet.
    Symantec Ad Blocking Software
    Zonealarm
    Pasakche (proxy software)
see this forum thread for more details.

:o oh, such a bad software like Zonealarm or ad-blocking sw!!! What is better - crap-blocking sw or Overnet??

Also, you can't uninstall all shit incl. Overnet later. Uninstallation of this crap will actually download another spyware application from internet!!! No offline "uninstallation" is allowed. Never seen such a cheeky application! Just look at the Add/Remove Programs section how many parts are installed. They are carefully hidden on your disk, eating your resources (CPU and bandwith). Just run NETSTAT tool to see how many connections are ongoing. You may also encounter crashes of IE and other programs like I did. F*** THIS CRAP!

Well that is what Overnet Lite and Overnet Pro are for. If something has spyware in it, always look for a lite version or a cracked version of pro.

I don't think there are any viruses in it though. If you found viruses, either you had them before or you didn't download the software from the Overnet website.

I have been running overnet for quite a few months now, and havent had any problems. All the spyware is optional.

What "viruses" are you referring to exactly? Care to post the names of a few of these viruses so we can check them out for ourselves.

Sure, overnet is incompatible with zonealarm, and one symantec product, but the overnet developers don't exactly make a secret of this. It is dispalyed clearly on the overnet homepage and in the app itself. If you have zonealarm, dont download overnet. End of story.

Anyway, zonelabs and symantec products are well known for causing conflicts and making large amounts of registry changes. If you have any sense you wont be running any products from these companies in the first place.

    This is just utter bullshit.

I can only surmise that you are either a complete n00b who has no idea how to use the software you have just downloaded, or you are a shit-stirrer with a grudge against overnet. I am guessing the latter.

I am a die-hard fan of Overnet, I've stuck with it through the rumors (the FAKE one that said they were run by the US government) and I will stick with it through this, becauase I know all this is fake.

Overnet has add-on programs that are NOT spyware when you install the program, and it is completly optional. If your click-happy, you probably clicked next too fast to see that, and it installed them. After you choose not to install any of the add-ons, the only thing you will notice is an ad-bar, which is not run by a program, but rather just retrieves ads from a website, and does nothing locally.

I have run ZoneAlarm with Overnet before and have had little to no problems, but I know run Kerio, so I don't have to worry about that.

About those viruses. The only viruses you can get from Overnet are those that you get from being a dumb n00b and downloading exe files without scanning them through an anti-virus first. You should know this. A program as popular as Overnet would not be around if it had all these bad things wrong with it that you said it does. It simply has nothing wrong with it in my opinion.

This seems like another one of those "I hate this network" threads, which I despise, because the only other one of these was the "I hate BitTorrent" one, which IMO is a better network than Overnet, and BitTorrent doesn't even have speed problems.
My current setup stats (like anyone cares...):

    ASUS A8N32-SLI Motherboard
    AMD 4400+ Dual-Core CPU
    Windows Vista (Ultimate 32bit)
2 GB (2x1GB) Corsair XMS RAM
2x250 GB (in RAID 0) HDDs
EVGA GeForce 7950 GTX 512 MB
    Creative X-FI Fatal1ty XtremeGamer

    Also sporting a black MacBook
    Revision/Release 1
    Upgraded to 2GB RAM.

when I installed overnet, I actually guessed a valid pro registration and password. God knows how, but I did. I won't give them out though.

It doesn't much matter as I'm currently using Linux and overnet runs like crap through wine. So does shareaza, but it does work thru wine, which is cool.

Mcovey, did you try the command line client? It looked like a pain, but it might run better.

This guy has no idea about anything. He has no experience with the program, just some anus trying to steal market share with another lame program he wrote and compiled with notepad.

Overnet is a trustworthy program qiht issues that can be easily fixed with adware. Just opt out of the installation or find a hack.
Can we ban this guy, I'm afraid he's too stupid to learn anything.

the original poster is right. overnet contains tons of spyware and apart from that, it's totally useless.
