Would you pay for P2P Networks? If it allowed you to share Music and other Files without any restrictions. I would pay for a P2P Network that allowed me too dl unlimited Files and share any content without a restriction and only charged $5.00 a month and only if it had High Quality .MP3's with a Bitrate of 192kbs or more. Would u pay for a P2P Service?
If we can pay $10.00 a month for XM radio and listen to all kinds of stuff i dont see y we cant share it freely for about the same amount. :blah
For unlimited legal sharing of everything available. Say $5 to the mpaa, $5 to the riaa, $10 shared among everyone else. I'd be willing to pay $20. Only though, if we had no choice otherwise. For now I am happy with free and I have even purchased songs off from itunes that weren't available on p2p networks at the time.
I just want to add that this would not really be possible to fully do. First of all you would have to mobilize all file sharers on one network where you would have to charge upon arrival and each month after. That would mean avoiding getting the network cracked and having to make sure that each account has only one user and that the user is paid up.
Next, you would have to get everyone who wants to get paid for their files to come together. That would mean creating a giant software association, an independant record association, and even an independant movie one. After that, you would need to set standards on who is allowed to get paid or else you would have photographers saying that their pics are copywritten and they usually charge a great deal for them and other people like that would be popping up looking for money.
So now you have the users and the sellers, but what about who controls the network? Perhaps someone will build it, but there would have to be a reason and someone would try to control it. Should it be the RIAA? I don't think so, since the others shoulc have some control. Should every assocation control it? What about the little guy? The only real solution would be for the government to control it and who wants that? It would have to come after p2p is ruled fully illegal and only as a settlment, leaving the government as the mediators. We could end up with seperate networks per assocation, but that leaves me to wonder what they would do for prices. $20 a month to download from the RIAA one or even more would turn everyone off from it.
The end result is either it's done right or everyone gets driven totally underground. Someone may buy a cd, but they will rip it for all of their friends and use one of their 1 gig (or perhaps by then even higher) email accounts and send it out to all of them, who will send it to all of their friends, and so on.
Theres already something like this its called Wippit http://wippit.com but theres no one sharing on it.
$22.99 a month? Now do you see why industries and private companies cannot control this. What if you wanted movies? Is it going to be $50 a month? What about good software? Even more...
Nope. I use p2p networks for either 100% legal files (isos, programs that are technically legal because I haven't entered a serial number _yet_, etc.), or to sample music before buying.
Occasionally I download a song that I hear on the radio (online radio) and listen to it but after about 5 listens it's all listened out.
I'd pay to keep the p2p networks the way they are (nice and big), keep in mind that if edonkey network charged people, right now they might have 20,000 users tops, but they have over 2 million now.
The benefit of open p2p networks will grow as more people place more and more mainstream content on existing free p2p networks. Over time, the selection on emule will be better than any offering from a paid service.
Specialized paid services will exist and a few will make a profit, but the days of controlling the media distribution system are over for the big 5.
Information wants to be free.
Is it not a feat sublime? Intellect hath conquered time.
I would pay 14€ in month for music and for every movie 1 €! and I don't want DRM
They can Stop Napster the Company, BUT never Napster the Idea...

Snocap is the software that Shawn Fanning (cough, sellout) is writing that will scan the p2p networks and attach a pricetag to songs. It will only work though if the p2p companies play along, which is doubtful at best for at least the respectable ones.Originally Posted by Ticalrida

except for with XM, you are just using the RIAA standard line--you listen to what they offerOriginally Posted by ThePillarOfAutumn
one of their problems with p2p is that they don't control who you can and can't hear
Notbob has perfectly summed up my major objection to the the actions taken by the RIAA and the music industry zombies in general. I am bloody sick and tired of other people deciding for me what I am allowed to hear . The music industry has waged battle after battle against every advance in technology that has given the music loving public some degree of freedom of choice.originally posted by notbob except for with XM, you are just using the RIAA standard line--you listen to what they offer
I love the way that music is widely available on the internet both through P2P programs and other music distribution programs. I love being able to pick and choose what I want to listen to and not just have to listen to the mindless regurgitated clone acts the music industry spews out on its assembly line.
The changes in music distribution have cracked the system wide open and encouraged musicians to step forward who celebrate uniqueness, individuality ,creativity and freedom in music and so it is only natural the music industry wants to stop file sharing in its tracks. Who knows where allowing such radical concepts to flourish might lead us ? :green4
Exactly I prefer to choose what kind of music I want to listen to and when I want to listen to it. I must add also that I dont mind being exposed to new music as long as I Like the type of music I am being exposed to.Originally Posted by Brycen257
Matter of fact thats the great thing about the internet we are able to research what we like. In the end p2p will still be around and they will not be able to stop p2p, file sharing etc.
