oh good lord re: "lost in port forwarding"

so i tried to configure my router as was suggested by various people (lost in port forwarding thread above) and now i cannot load web pages or dl off bittorrent. When i check my network connection, it says that i am still connected, but i cant seem to use the internet at all. This really presents a problem because i think what messed me up is changing my router settings, which i did online, and now i cant access the page. Does anyone have any suggestions (note: there are three computers connected to the internet through my router, i am the main one, the others still work). Oh yeah, and im a noob that probably shouldnt have fooled with this stuff in the first place, so i dont really know what most of the things/settings actually mean .

If you unplug your router for 5 minutes most of them go back to default settings
If youre running linksys the reset button is on the back, hold it for 30 seconds

There should be a reset button on them all. I use a wired linksys for my home network, and you can unplug it indefinately and the settings will stay the same (the way I like it.) But there should be a small hole in the back where you can stick a paper clip or something in and reset the router.

Excellent, it worked, thanks alot. Also, for the first time some of my bittorrent dls are green, not yellow, 2 have switched to green, one remains yellow, does this mean that i have finally got my port forwarding together?

Probably not completly if you are still getting some yellow. I can run bittorrent with no port forwarding and get green most of the time to.

You really should email dlink tech support and tell them your specific problems and also type out a list of words you don't understand. You bought their product, they should be able to help you. I only say this because I have had problems with routers in the past and tech support has always been the most help.

Basically it would go like this.

Hi tech support,

I recently purchased a router from you, (insert product id here), and I can't seem to be able to configure it correctly with the instructions form your site or any other site for that matter. An example of what I am trying to do is open up (insert port here) so that bittorrent will work and also I am trying to set it up so my computer has a static ip address so my port forward will also work.

Could you please explain in english how I can set up a static ip address. I don't understand terms very well, so if you could show me where I could get the information from to fill in the blanks, that would be very helpful.

Then could you please show me how to set up just one port forward, for bittorrent, port number (insert port here). Once again, I don't understand big computer terms, so if you could break it down a bit I would be appreciative.

Any good company, like dlink, will give you a good, fast response for your problem. My switch is dlink, but I have never had to ask for help, so I don't know how fast they respond. My wireless router though is USR and they respond to every email pretty much within a day and you can keep replying and they will keep helping you. I hope for your sake that dlink has the same tech support system.
