My friend just took off Ares due to spyware/adware. I have heard a lot of good things about Limewire and Shareaza. First of all, do either of these have any spyware/adware and which would you prefer?
i definatley go with shareaza but before you start downloading do this instructions http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=20750 and go to the link it provides first before you do the first step on the page!

Thats cool, I need to read a little more of that. Does Shareaza do what eMule does(the uploading at the same time as downloading). If it does, I will definately go with that.
YEP IT DOES BUT IF your looking for music or apps games and movies keep the gnutella connections only turn off edonkey. All of them will have good sources and fast downloads if you do the steps i downloaded roxio easy cd + dvd creator 6 platinum in 20 minutes with the speed i got from the instructions.

That's funny. My version (and all the other versions I've run) of Ares never have had any spyware. What version are you running?!?!?!?!?!Originally Posted by Dizzle4

I always get good speed with both, but it depends really on what networks you plan to use. For just gnutella, Limewire is fast and capable of a lot of things. Shareaza though will expand to Gnutella 2 and Edonkey, which would do like what emule does, only if you are on that network for the download. There is also Bittorrent support, but I don't use that part. I much prefer Azureus. I do tend to find better results for music from Limewire and their corruption detection is nice, but Shareaza will probably treat you better for speed, though I have no complaints about Limewire pro.
I'm one of those people though with like twenty P2P programs installed simply because my results will differ slightly for each program and I love to power search.
I think you are talking about Nav Helper which is totally optional.Originally Posted by Dizzle4

To Crazy Horse, I don't have Ares yet because I was searching around, but my friend has the newest version of Ares, 1.81 I believe. Does anyone know if there is any configuration with a hardware firewall(Linksys) for either Limewire or Shareaza?
Ares has NO adware or spyware, if you dont uncheck the Navhelper thing you will get ads (i think)
Anyway, Shareaza or LimeWire.. Hmmm, i dont really like LimeWire, but LimeWire has faster downloads then Shareaza, BUT Limewire begs people to go PRO that gets annoying at times...
Go for Shareaza 2.0
just go to connect and check the box that says random that will fix your firewall probrlem in shareaza!

I suggest to you use BearShare or Lime Wire...both are the best Gnutella client. Shareaza uses to much of your computer resources and it's much slower than any other Gnutella clients out there...fuck, it's way to slow!
As has been stated - If your friend had unchecked the navhelper box on install there would be no spyware/adware. It's totally optional and can still be removed in add/removeOriginally Posted by Dizzle4
Good luck on your quest. There are lots of very good programs out there. You will probably find that you end up with more than one program as there are good choices out there. I'm currently using WinMX, Ares, IMesh-lite and Piolet. I can usually find what I'm looking for between the 4. Now with all the new releases coming out I probably will be changing my line up again very soon.
