    Media player 9

I was just wondering how many people here upgraded to Media player 9, and if so how do you like it?

Too bloated for me, and too slow. Plus, DRM, licensing, etc. It's just annoying, in my opinion, and it doesn't do a particularly good job of the things it DOES do.

I use Winamp or foobar for my music, and Media Player Classic (MPC)--which is NOT Microsoft related--for pretty mcuh evertything else. Handles anything you throw at it, provided you have the proper codecs. I recommend the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack for that. MPC is easy to use for beginners, but also provides alot of more advanced options. It is also very lightweight in resources used.

    Winamp -- www.winamp.com
    foobar -- www.foobar2000.org/
    MPC -- http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/
    Codec Pack -- www.k-litecodecpack.com/

Its okay. It has nice video controls, like for brightness and such so on some dark xvid movies thats nice. It also renders video slightly better than 6.4 does. Its a tad on the slow side launching sometimes though. And it has Roxio installed with it and it can really fuck up the drivers for nero on occasion. I only got it to play DRMed walmart music files when I tried it out but its actually kinda nice.

I haven't had any trouble with it. I just wish they'd let me update my work comp. with it. Damn admin rights...

I've upgraded - for video, it's great. But for just playing music, it's far too bloated - for example, I'm running a 2.53 GHz P4. When WM9's minimized and only playing an mp3, on average, it takes up about 11% of my CPU. Don't ask me why though...

yea! it playes everything and very fast...but for mp3s I use winamp.!
what I do not like is that if you start wmp9 without playing a files it shows you a media website! I hate that! any one knows how turn this off?

i have it but i don't use it much. why i really don't know. i haven't had any problems with it. it has some nice features and in my case mp3 playback sounds better than winamp.
christoph i think if you go into tools-options- then player and un check start player in media guide will solve your problem. if not there is something in there that will.

www.quinnware.com ?? you must be joking i downloaded that, ugly, cluttered interface, i'd rather use Windows media player v9 .. good for video's. It's not a bad player, you should update if you use v7.1 or below is what i think

And what's this about roxio? I have not noticed anything Roxio, and my Nero still works perfect.

And I've never had a problem with it playing any files. It plays all my DivX, xvid, mpeg, whatever. It plays everything. Something my other players wouldn't do. It recognizes all my codecs and everything perfectly. I would definately recommend it.

It installs the roxio/adaptec cd drivers for burning songs from within WMP9. Using the same driver/writer engine as easy cd creator. For a while back I heard of known issues between the drivers that easy cd creater used and the nero drivers. I installed WMP9 and nero FREAKED. It gave a ton of errors about the ASPI drivers I think it was. I had to reinstall Nero to clear it. Everytime I installed WMP9 after that gave the same issues. Maybe it doesnt happen to all but it messed me up.

Roxio now owns the easy cd creater software and renamed it to easy media creator in its latest version I think. So Adaptec easy cd creator would now be roxio easy cd creator.
