Is SpyBot Search and Destroy not working?

For the last month whenever I scan my computer with SpyBot it says that I have no known threats on my computer. I check for updates and it says there is no newer updated version available. I thought it was kind of weird but figured since I've only been using Open Source programs for file sharing that I was steering clear of spyware.

Today I decided to check the Spybot website and it's down. So has everyone else been experiencing this problem?

I think a new 1.3 version was just released. Do you have that?

Spybot search & destroy has not had a detection update in quite some time. Or at least the last time I looked for one it hadn't. Also, I switched from Microsoft IE to Firefox and I don't find much if any spyware, malware, adware, extortionware anymore because of this. So you might consider the browser you use being responsible for how much you find/not finding any anymore. Ad-aware is still being updated regularly if you want to switch to another program. And it will not mess up your computer like Spybot will, leaving you unable to access the internet with browsers such as Microsoft IE, & Avant.

The unfortunate thing is that Ad-aware does not catch many things that the new spybot does catch.
The new version is available here.http://www.safer-networking.org/
Oh and one of the things that it does find is the alexa tool bar.

    Problem with Spybot

I do a scan every day for spyware. It picks up the registry files and deletes them, then I do a scan either 10 mins later not doing any activity on my computer or a day later. And those 3 files are still being picked up by spybot. I tried manually removing it from the registry but I dont see it anywhere in there. Similar to situation to Spysweeper, Adaware and Spyware Xterminator
anyone got a clue wtf is going on
    thanx

Does spybot screw with IE access then? For some reason I can't access any secure connections with IE at the moment. Not too much of a problem as I usually use Mozilla but it'd still be nice to know why it's doing this.

Could spybot be causing this then?

You must get the new SB in order to receive the latest updates and detections.

It's really cool, I recommend everyone update to this new version.

1.3 is great!!! i use win 2000 and it works perfect. Let me just tell you that the reason it may not detect any other threats on your pc is because its 'new' and the open source programmers work their ass off trying to find new stuff.

    Thumbs down Spybot 1.3

I tried the new version of Spybot 1.3. Had major problems as did a friend of mine on her computer. It cause a number of websites to become restricted.Under Internet tools Restricted Sites It added a bunch of restricted sites including my own. Mine has the URL of www.freewebs.com/thecorls I could not make any changes to my web pages or anything. I then removed the probgram and still had the problen so all I could do was do a system rstore to an earlier date. Finally got my website up and running again so I could make changes. Right now all I am using is adaware. Thanx and have a great day:devil :devil

Yeah I noticed that too romantic guy. I had to go into the restricted sites to remove freewebs.com in order to sign your guestbook.

What I'm thinking is that freewebs has some form of adware or cookies they send you for visiting their sites. They do this to pay for expenses most likely.

Spybot isn't really at fault for adding them, but I can also see why it is a problem.

to fix this go to start > run > type 'regsvr32 softpub.dll' and press enter. 9 times out of ten this fixes secure sites issues.
