I am currenly playing a game and this has started to bother me. My computer will not play cd-roms anymore. It won't read them, it won't acknowledge them but once in awhile. My computer is around 2yrs old. Its a Dell Diminsion 4400 running on WinXP. The drive is a CD-RW with a P4 Processor. When I put a cd in it will simply spin for like 2 seconds then quit and if you go to my computer and click the cd-rw it just open to a blank folder. The damn thing doesn't even know it has a cd. Even if i click on the game Icon it says no cd inserted in drive. Is there a patch or fix for my problem or has it simply "gone bad"?
Once I had a problem similar to that which the CD ROM was operating intermittently. I would check inside your computer tower and see if the power cable going to your CD ROM drive is securely plugged in.
However it is possible that you CD ROM is just dead in the water too.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".
Juggalo - I had nearly the same thing happen. My drive went bad and had to replace it.Originally Posted by Juggalo15

I know but I just can't believe this *cries*
I think i will check the connections inside the computer...cause yea isn't 2 yrs pretty young for a cd-drive death?
Yes but it may have had a defect or like in my case I think mine got just too dusty inside and that may have caused my problems.Originally Posted by Juggalo15

Check the IDE cable. Unplug it and plug it back in.
:hole
alright I'll check it out here in a bit, thanks
well i stay in India, and out here this is a common problem.......
all u need to do is get the lense cleaned, or if u fancy it clean it out yourself....
nail polish remover or simply water does the trick.....
PS: Nail polish remover is either my sisters or mom's, aight,
you think thats all the problem is really?... I do hope so i thought it was the disk but it played on a buddy's computer...its never been cleaned so that should be the problem..
I had a problem exactly as you have described the cd was there then its not then it is. the problem was the cd was not compatible with XP. I purchased a new new one and worked perfect. If not Check/Replace cables and make sure drivers are current.

well I borrowed a cd-rw drive from a friend and put it in my computer and the cd runs fine now. So I'm guessing its the cd drive of mine that went bad. I'm getting it cleaned but after that theres nothing else i can do but buy a new one...
IF you play games, and it is 2 years old.. Plus all the cd's you burn..it could of just died.. But always check the connections.. It does register a cd-rw is installed on it, so i cant believe it would be loose. But you could get a 52x cd-rw =) Be faster and such.
