Corporations have to make a profit and protect business interests. If compact discs loose all value because of ubiquidous copying in digital form, they are going to use every trick they can to keep in business.

If you have a technology that is in the public interest, say free unlimited power from a sunflower seed, and the oil industry will want to buy your patents, interests, and where ever it can, sue you into not using or developing the technology.

Corporations now have lawmakers on it's side. Lawmakers fear a depression if technology crashes, specifically intelectual property. Law + Technology + access = corruption, or just what the content industries need to keep existing media formats profitable for a few more years if that.

There is something called "Public benefit", and digital transfer of information is for public benefit. If you restrict something so you can profit -- that discredits your argument.

So mp3 IS in the public benefit. The problem is the corporate structure has money + technology + access to lawmakers and the system.

We have the vote and organization. Something we need to both use and develop.

Movies and music is trivial information, when it is medical, health ..ect. information then the "corporation+ money + technology + access to lawmakers to restrict access for exceessive profit is scary.

That is why I am calling out for help from everyone. You take a good hard long look at what everyone is saying in the thread from how it begins from one girls views they turn it into a picnic and eat it up alive. Look for looknsee and his comments track his record and he is a famous person so he says. In fact if you look into that whole deal and follow the whole story and then go on to the next thread where Mr. Looknsee has dinner with is label and what they discuss.
